At the Lakeview Jr. Rodeo, Jana Steagall won both the polebending and the goat tying events and placed fourth in the team roping. She came home with the all-around award from the competition. At the Halfway Jr. Rodeo, Jana won a saddle for again taking the all-around award. Along the way she placed second in barrels, third in break away roping and tied for fourth in calf riding. Also at the Halfway Rodeo, Brett Sherer tied for second in polebending, tied for fourth in break away roping and tied for fifth in barrels. Cindy Dough erty placed fourth in steer daubbing, Cliff Dougherty tied for fourth in calf riding and David Steagall placed fourth in calf roping. Moving on to the Prineville Jr. Rodeo, Cindy Dougherty Over the Tee Gup by Cindy Kerr In golf action this week, the women hosted Condon's women tuesday,June 21. Low gross for the field were Condon's Dorothy Close and Heppner's Lois Hunt. Condon's winners were Dee Hollen low gross and low net went to Margaret Ann Smith. Dorothy Close had the long drive for Condon. Heppner awards went to Bev Gunderson low gross, second low gross was awarded to Pat Edmundson, Edie Skow and Cindy Kerr. Low net went to Kay Anderson and second low net were Monica Jones and PaU Lankford. The long drive con-i-test was won by Annette Klinger. Pat Edmundson won the closest to the pin contest for Heppner. In other events the past week, Echo's men and women came for club play, June 26. Larry Monkus cleaned up for Echo's men taking low gross, low net, and long drive. George Car michael and Bill Burnett tied for second low gross, and Tom Brandsteller took second low i Lessons, open swims create pool activity The second session of swim ming lessons at the Heppner pool will start at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 5 and continue through Saturday, July 9. Depending on the turnout, lessons for children in all skill levels will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays while the next session, begin ning July 5, will feature adult swimming lessons from 11am. until noon. Life-saving Classes in junior and senior life saving are tentatively scheduled to begin Tuesday, July 19. On Thursday evenings by special arrangement there will be some members of the Tupper Youth Conservation Corps in the pool during the adult swim. The tenor of these evening swims will be quiet and the marker rope will be down for those persons desiring to swim lengths of the pool for physical conditioning. If response to the adult swims is poor the pool will open Tuesday through Thursday nights for private parties. Jana Steagall continued her string of all-around titles at Prineville, capturing the junior award after a first place finish in polebending and tied for fourth in calf riding. Todd Sherer and Dawn Peter son placed sixth in team roping and Dawn took fourth in the break away roping event. Brett Sherer placed second in pole bending and tied for fifth in barrels. Maureen Healy placed second in senior polebending and fourth in barrels while Janice Healy finished third in polebending. Ron Currin placed third in the bull dogging. Tony Currin was third and Mike Currin fourth in break away roping while the two finished second and third in calf riding. Also competing in the rodeos were Trisha Mahoney, Jack Yocum and Steve Currin. net. Closest to the pin was won by Mac Miehieli. John Edmundson won low gross for Heppner followed by Mike Schwartz with second low gross. Low net went to Jerry Samples and second low gross went to Norm Rickert, Mike Schwartz and Don Woods. Dave Harrison took long drive and Craig Cooley won closest to the pin contest for Heppner's men. In women's action, Lois Neyt won low gross for Echo and Sandi Seibel and Vera Peterson were tied for low net. Edie Skow and Norma Har rison split the women Heppner awards, Skow taking low gross and the closest to the pin in the second shot award and Harrison winning low net and least putts. Willow Creek County Club held a successful work day Satur day, June 25. The Club would like to thank those who helped. In coming events, Willow Creek County Club will hold their annual Flag tournament July 4 starting at 4 p.m. night beginning at 8 p.m. is teen night. This Sunday at 8 p.m. will be family night, a two-hour swim for swimming children and swimming parents with games and contests planned. There will be no cut offs or jeans allowed in the pool. Only persons with bathing suits will be allowed in the pool. This requirement is necessary to keep the pool screening filter free of lint. Babe Ruth team finds win After a slow start, Morrow County's Babe Ruth baseball team is beginning to find the winning track. The young team won their last two games through last weekend after dropping their first seven lea gue contests. The team has outhit opponents water exchange needed to keep the pool clear and sanitary. Season memberships for the swimming pool are available at city hall. Registration for swimming and diving lessons, party reservations and mother tot swim, etc., should be made at the pool between the hours of 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Persons wishing to volunteer to help with swimming lessons or who desire to take a Water Safety Instructors course should notify the pool manager this week. 'tryi- First Federal Savings Swim team takes second After only one week of practice, the Heppner swim team traveled to Pendleton Thursday to take on Pendleton and Enterprise in a three-way meet. The team finished a strong second in the competi tion with 183 points wedged bewteen Pendleton's 287 and Enterprise's 114. The meet's big winner was Kelli Bergstrom who brought home four first place ribbons. Cam George won three events while Judi Ward and Penny Connor each took two wins. In the girls 8 and under 50-yd. free, Penny Connor was second in 31.6. Following Bergstrom's time of 42.5 in the girls 9-10 50-yd. free was Ellen Arbogast in second with a time of 52.3, Shelly Biddle in third at 55.8 and Stephanie Sumner in fourth at 59.8. ' Cam George won the boys 9-10 50-yd. free event in 47.2 and was followed by David Franks in second with a time of 47.4. Judi Ward won the girls 11-12 50-yd. free with a 39.1 while Shane Laughlin placed third in the boys event at 39.2. Karen Kenny scored in the girls 13-14 100 free with a second place time of 1:24 while Rick Smith placed third in the boys event with a time of 1:26.8. Moving to the breaststroke events, Penny Connor was second in 41.0. Kelli Berg strom's winning clocking of 54.1 was followed by Shelly Biddle in third with a time of 1:04.9. Cam George won his breastroke event in 1:01.8, Judi Ward placed third with a 56.1 and Shane Laughlin topped the field . with a time of 50.4. Cam George's winning time of 1:01,7 was followed by David Franks who finished third at 1:07.1. Judi Ward won her backstroke event at 50.1. Shane Laughlin took second in 54.0. Karen Kenny led the field with a time of 41.5 while Deann Connor was third at 51.4. Rick Smith placed second at 51.3. In butterfly events, Penny Connor won again in 42.1, Kelli Bergstrom finished first with a time of 55.7, Ellen Arbogast took second in 1:10.6 and Shelly Biddle was third in 1:12.6. Cam George recorded another win with a time of 1:14, while Lisa Wilson took a third at 1:27.6. Complete results were not available for other events. Reunion planned July 23-24 The 1925 through 1929 grad uating classes of Heppner High School are planning a class reunion July 23 and 24.
