't Third grade students win litter collection contest Last Friday the multi-purpose room at Heppner Ele mentary School held lots of litter. The litter was collected around Heppner by students in the lower four grades from Mar. 7 to noon, Mar. 11. 'After a real struggle, the three Heppner Garden Club judged declared that Mrs. Hanna 's third grade room were the first place gatherers of litter. The room was awarded a first-place cer tificate. : Mrs. Dubuque's second graders were a close second in the contest, followed by Mrs. Peck's third grade and Mrs. Toney photos gain gallery acceptance Carnegie Center Exhibition Galleries at Walla Walla, Wash., has notified Dennis Toney "that three of his photo graphs have been accepted for the Second Annual Regional Juried Art Show. As far as we've heard, he is the only Morrow County artist whose work has been accepted. The entries for this exhibi tion were judged by Gordon Kensler of the Department of Art of the University of Ore Heppner show cast now in rehearsal The 17-member cast of "You Can't Take It With You" has entered rehearsal for the first Heppner Community Theatre production. The three-act comedy will be staged Friday and Saturday, Apr. 15 and 16, according to Marsha Mat thewson, director. ! Mrs. Dick's class did an especially fine job because it is not only the youngest of the four winners, but because there are only 14 in that homeroom. The 25 students in Mrs. Hanna 's room are Cindy Davis, Travis Harrison, Dwayne Dollarhide, Leah Cooper, Missy Gates, Marty Brannon, Sandra Wattenbur ger, Chris Kurtz, Shawn Paine, Paula Plocharsky, Marilyn Parker, Todd Lind say, Kim Wright, Michelle Miles, Loran Hayes, Dyann Brosnan, Stephanie Sumner, Jeff McElhany, Jimmy Cason, gon. The exhibition will open for public viewing from Mar. 15 through Apr. 2, at 109 South Pa louse St. Toney, who teaches speech, creative writing, poetry and media photography at Hep pner High School, also teaches film making at B.M.C.C. He is a member of the Walla Walla Council of Arts. His photos and photos of his students have been prize winners at Morrow County fairs. Bi Mm IFrfe Cifbiiws During 29SKI Anniversary Boardman lines Boardman City Council will be sending out a letter of historical data concerning the controver sial sewer and water lines in volved in the Hillview and Han sen developments. Mayor Gerry Peck introduced the idea at the Council's Tuesday night meeting. The letter will include a historical account of how the pipe inspection was handled. Past reports have indicated that the city engineer at the time, Stan Wallulis of Wallulis and Assoc., Pendleton, had not properly inspected the lines and . that there might be a danger of the pipes rupturing. "Let's be sure that the people ' know that the city affirms that ; the lines were built to acceptable city specifications," said Coun-' cillor Gene Trumbull. The letter, to be signed by the mayor, will be sent to all affected parties in an attempt to satisfy Ag board views latest information on drougth Members of the State Board of Agriculture will be briefed on the latest information available on the effects of Oregon's prolonged dry spell during a meeting underway in Salem this week. The meeting, in the con ference room of the Oregon Department of Agriculture Building, opened Wednesday following the board's luncheon with representatives of Ore Cowbelles plan anniversary clebration Morrow County Cowbelles will be celebrating their 20th anniversary Saturday, Mar. 26, with a potluck dinner and dance at the American Legion Hall in Heppner. The Cowbelles have extend ed an invitation to all livestock producers and cattlemen to take part in the celebration. The potluck dinner will get underway at the Legion Hall at 6:30 p.m. Mar. 26. "We've got the lines, no matter what," added Peck. Parked mobile homes, which often line Boardman's north and soulh sides next to the freeway, will find parking a little more restrictive in the future. The city is looking into designated parking areas. "This has been a growing problem for years," said Peck. A two hour parking sign will be in stalled on the south side of the Dodge City Motel parking area. Councillor Joe Tatone, owner of the Dodge City, had been con templating putting up a fence to keep the unwanted trailers out of his customer parking. In other action, the council: Organized a committee to look into funding for a legal baseball backstop to be used by the Boardman Little League teams. The request came from Carla Leighton, league gon's farm and commodity groups. During the meeting today, the board will be asked to consider the department's list of proposed restricted use pesticides.
