Feb. 3, 1977 H Uf Y ' A poor second half and "rookie refs" are to blame for Heppner's loss to Hermiston last week in girls' basketball action, according to Coach Rebecca Randall. The Bulldog females rattled Heppner with a convincing, 48-28 pounding. Lisa Kunkel and Karin Sobotta combined for 32 points, both hitting 16 to lead Hermiston. Kunkel also yank ed down 22 rebounds in the contest. Hermiston outrebounded Heppner, 36-32, despite a good effort from Maureen Healy, who continues to lead the conference in rebounds with a 14 carom average. The Fillies dropped back 11-7 after one period and trailed by five at halftime. But a strong second half propelled Rockets rebound, win 38-31 J Pilot Rock wasn't the first team to beat Heppner's frosh, but they were the first team to equal the Mustangs in re bounds. The Rockets outjump ed and won, 38-31, last week. 'Ron Young led the Mustang attack with 12 points. Jim Parker had 14 rebounds and seven points. Jody Marlatt added ten rebounds. Dan Post had 13 points and i9 rebounds for Pilot Rock. Rebounds were even at 38. Heppner trailed by three at halftime and by six heading into the fourth period.
