Page 8. THE GAZETTE-TIMES, Heppner. OR. Thursday. Oct. T. 17 Grade schools ask talents Do you have a hobby, skill or picture of a trip that you would share with a class of Heppner Elementary students? The school is forming a Talent Bank of "resourceful" adults in the area. The list will be cross filed so that a teacher looking for someone to per sonalize a learning experience will have at least one person who can be called upon for help. What sort of skills, talents and experiences are wanted for the Talent Bank? This list is as long as the total of the skills, talents and travel ex periencesas well as other special experiences and ex pertiseof those living in this area. Talent Bank forms have been left at several Heppner stores. They list only a few of the possible resources which adults can provide. What are your hobbies? Do you have a special skill you can demonstrate in an hour for a group of youngsters? Perhaps you have a fine stamp collection which would "turn on" youngsters to this worthwhile hobby and also highlight a geography unit in a foreign country. That trip you made to Washington, D.C. or Alaska or the desert how about sharing your pictures and souvenirs? If your resource will add to children's knowledge, inter est, or understanding, you may be called. A mutually convenient time for your visit will be arranged and noted in the card so that you will not be overworked by the school. Candidate visits Milo Pope, Milton-Freewa-ter attorney and non-partisan candidate for Circuit Court Judge, campaigned in Morrow County last Sunday. "At first I was not certain people would be happy to see a candidate on Sunday," Pope said. He added that everyone was warm and friendly. Pope said he "stopped at every ranch on Little Butter Creek." The circuit judge race has generated "a lot of interest," Pope said. "Nearly everyone I talked to had read about it in the paper and most people complimented me on winning the bar poll," he said. The candidate said he trav eled from Butter Creek to Heppner, Lexington, lone and to several ranches North of lone in the Cecil area. "I have a souvenir pebble from the DAR memorial to Col. Cornel ius Gilliam on Wells Spring Road," he said. Pope said he plans several more trips to Morrow County. Three face foes Just three county positions will have opposition at this year's November 2 general election. The three opposition ballots will be for county judge, county commissioner and county clerk. The remaining ten positions will be unop posed and two have nocan didates at all. Incumbent Paul W. Jones, Democrat, will have as com petition, an Irrigon Republic an, Daniel A. Creamer. The county commissioner race will be filled by either William L. Miller, Democrat, or War ren H. McCoy, Republican from Irrigon. For county clerk, incumbent Sadie Parrish, a Democrat, faces Pauline J. Winter, the Republican candidate. (See this race story below.) In other unopposed races: Larry Fetsch, Democrat for sheriff; Sylvia McDaniel, Republican for treasurer; and Dolores Gribble, Justice of the Peace. Directors of the Soil and Water Conservation district are all unopposed. They are: Floyd Copenhaver, zone one; George Kenney, zone two; R.W. Bergstrom, zone three; Albert Osmin, zone five; and C.R. McElligott, director at large. The two positions without candidates are director at large for the Soil and Water Conservation district and county surveyor. Parrish vs Winter Up for grabs this November will be the county clerk's position. Incumbent Sadie Parrish, a Democrat who has held that position for 12 years, is faced by Pauline W. Winter, currently the dispatcher at the county sheriff s office. Parrish has been a resident of Morrow County for 41 years. She spent six years as a deputy county clerk and two years as appointed clerk be fore running for the office. She has been active in that office for the last 23 years. "During the past 23 years, I have been able to complete a long range plan to improve and modernize this office and to serve the people and pre serve the county records," parrish said. She introduced and converted the office to microfilm in 18. Parrish said she has been able to maintain the work load with the assistance of one deputy, "in spite of the fact that the work in the clerk's office has Increased 20 times." Parrish is the past President of the Oregon State Association of Clerks.
