Heppner, OR, Thursday, Sept. 9, M7 i Lexington News A 1 J I i Party Former Morrow County Girl Wed The county parks were full over Labor Day weekend and the weather was beautiful all the while. Grouse hunting in the mountains was not the best. The nights were above 40 degrees but not much. Fall is in the air. Spending the weekend in the Tri-City area were Grace Buschke visiting with her daughter and family, the Sam Shipps family and Alta Cutsforth who visited her daughter and family, Faye and Jim Uhler. Attending the rodeo at Halway this weekend were Shirley and Neil Beamer and taking Steve and Joedy Marlatt and Chris Zita with them. Sue and Glenn Cooper and family have just returned from a trip to Southern California and Nevada, visiting their daughter and family in San Dimas, CA. Here is one bit of gossip that I know everyone is interested in. Wedding bells have been set this Sunday for Jim Rogers and Coetta Debraal. P.S. I don't know if anyone ever bothers to tell those people over at the post office (U.S. Post Office employees) about their nice dispositions and the smiling faces that meet us every day. Thoroughly nice people. Over Labor Day the Bill Weatherfords reunioned with three of their children at Port Orchard, WA. In spite of the traffic-slowing Puget Sound ferry strike and lots of rain, they had great visiting with Karla Weatherford, the Ross Haberlachs and the Ray Chenhalls. Bill proved to be a dandy oysterman and made a fine haul of big, fresh oysters but so far hasn't located any pearl. Something new for the new teachers in Heppner's schools. Members of the Heppner Garden Club arranged flowers for their desks on opening day, Tuesday. The Bookworms will gather for their traditional September potluck dinner and planning meeting next Tuesday, Sept. 14, at the James Thomson home on South Court St. at 6:30. Library News The Fellowship Hall of Evangel Baptist Church, Port land, was the scene for the wedding of Kathleen Ann Messenger and James Allen Fleskes on August 14. The Rev. Le.is Wetzel officiated at the 11 a.m. service. The bride wore her mother 's wedding dress which was made by maternal grand mother Ola Laney 20 years ago. The gown was floor length brocade satin. The veil was matched scalloped crown and floor length. She carrid a bouquet of yellow roses and baby breath. The Bible carried by the ' bride has been carried by two generations of Messenger girls, and belongs to the paternal grandfather Truman Messenger. Kathleen is the daughter of Gary and Sue Messenger. Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Fleskes, Portland, are the parents of James. The Maid of Honor was Geraldine Messenger, sister of the bride. Kneeling Pillow Bearer was Dana dak, cousin of the bride. Best man was Dan White, friend of the groom. The wedding music was played and recorded by Mr. and Mrs. Carroll Messenger. Geraldine Messenger and Kat ie Valoff sang "You're a Gift" with Katie accompanying on the guitar. Background for the cere mony was a lattice heart made for the granddaughter's wedding by grandfather Tru man Messenger was outlined with fir boughs and decorated with yellow roses. Bridesmaid's dress was white with blue flowers cover ed by a white eyelet cape. She wore a white picture hat with matching trim. The Pillow Bearer wore a matching dress of white with yellow roses. The Kneeling pillows were made by the maternal grandmother that matched the material of the bride's gown. The reception followed the wedding with luncheon served before the cake. The cake was three tiers decorated with clusters of blue and yellow roses. The top was two bells over the bridegroom that were used by the maternal grand parents of Mr. and Mrs. Omer Laney, 10 years ago and used by the bride's parents 20 years ago. The couple will be living at N.E. 155th and Glisan after a honeymoon at the beach. The bride is employed at Pace maker Inc. and the groom at Albertsons Food Stores. Mr. and Mrs. T.E. Messen ger, Lexington, grandparents of the bride, attended the double ring ceremony and reception. Each year the public library circulation records increase. This summer July and August saw the biggest circulation ever. During August 720 books and magazines were checked out The library was open to the public 65 Vt hours; thus over 11 books went out each hour. During July 695 items were checked out, but because of the Monday, July 4 holiday there were fewer hours of public service. The award was an engraved cantel plate. Donna was very sur prised and pleased with the award. The 4-H English Equi tation class did not re ceive an award at the show, as this was the first year for this new class. The lone Grand Squares are preparing for another season of lessons and dancing. Regu lar dances are held in lone at the Willows Grange hall on the first Saturday and third Fri day of each month. The first dance begins Friday, Sept. 17, 7:30 p.m. Lessons will be held each Tuesday evening 7:30-10 p.m. at the Odd Fellows Lodge Hall in Heppner, starting Sept.
