Marty Davis, a country western, down home style recording artist, will highlight the fair's entertainment on the family fun night, Wednesday. Davis will appear with The Murphys at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday night in the arena. His performance will last about 45 minutes. After that, he will entertain during a dame from 8:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. Davis began his musical career as a disc jockey in V.M After flipping records day in and day out, he finally decided that the flip-flop business wasn't for him . . . making others flip was. .i He and a few friends jumped in head first in the musical industry, working various weekend gigs in Southern Oregon and Northern California. Their popularity among country western enthusiasts ballooned. They decided to take that fateful step and in !. five years after his start in a radio station, the Marty Davis show hit the road. Since those beginnings in 1969. Marty has worked with several groups from Alaska, Colorado. Wyoming. Idaho. Washington. California and Oregon, to Nevada . . in Elks Clubs, and casinos, including the Golden. Nugget in Las Vegas . . . doing country music, country rock, shows, dances . . . and always doing well. A I i Warty Davis By area businesses, people Eleven new special awards are being offered this year at the county fair from special sponsors. Besides these spe cial awards, a large group of other awards will be pre sented. The 11 are for the following: beef, from Sabre Farms; sheep from Western Empire; poultry and rabbits from Sabre Farms; potatoes from the Blue Mountain Potato Council; other commercial crops from Sabre Farms; Fruits and vegetables from John and Ann Prag; flowers from the Heppner Garden Gub; home economics from Eastern Oregon Farms; arts, crafts and collections from Oregon Potato Incorporated; children's corner from Lind say Ranch; and teen corner from J-S Ranch. Along with those, the fair is also offering these awards: 4-H presentations: Country Critten, Irrigon to the out standing agriculture presen tation; DO. and Delpha Nelson to the outstanding pre sentation $15; Oregon Bee keepers Assn. to the best intermediate and senior pre sentation using honey; Rhea Creek Study group to the best Individual and best team foods presentation. In the 4-H beef competition, these special awards will be offered: from the American Polled Hereford Assn., to the champ polled bereford , fe male; Chris Rauch, Lexington to the champ shorthorn steer; C.W. Acock and Son. Board man to the grand champ steer and horned hereford heifer; from Oregon Poll-ettes. a trophy to best individual polled hereford breeding or market animal ; Western Stat es Angus Auxiliary, a silver trophy to outstanding 411 Angus exhibitor. In 4-H swine. Country Crit ters of Irrigon sponsor an award to the champ market hog. To 4-H Livestock contest ants. Blackhorsc 4 11 Club offers an award for the top herdsmanship club. And Cal's Arco offers one to the highest scoring livestock judge. Other livestock awards are champ swine showman from Country Critters, champ beef showman and champ dairy showman from Hcrmiston Veterinary clinic; Champ beef, dairy, sheep and iwine Junior showman from Jordan Elevator, lone; Champ beef, dairy, sheep and swine senior showman from Morrow Co. Grain Growers; Grand champ all-around showman from N.C.Anderson, Dallas; Champ sheep showman from Norden Stefanides.
