Hermiston Herald took an early lead as fhey got four runs on Kinzua errors in the second. - fa the third, Kinzua jumped back with two funs as Gary Kemp and Lavern Van Marter smashed singles to score. Jamie Sands was left on base. Kinzua held Hermiston Herald scoreless in the third and fourth. The Heppner team came up with three runs to lead the Herald 5-4. Kevin Dick led it off with a single in left field. Tim Bellamy was awarded base on balls. Kemp then stepped up to the bag and smashed a triple to score Dick and Bellamy. Keith Curnutt bunted a ball to the pitcher an brought Kemp across the plate.- In the fifth, the Hermiston team tied the contest with a run. They held Kinzua scoreless in the fifth and sixth. The winning run came in the seventh for Kinzua. In previous action, Kinzua posted wins over Erico 7-5; Lockerroom 12-2; Marlette 8-7 in overtime; and won by forfeit over Lamb Weston. Lions set tourney date The Third Annual Heppner Lions Golf Tourney is sched uled for Saturday, Sept. 11 at the Willow Creek Country Club. As in the previous tour naments, all net proceeds will be donated to the Oregon Lions Sight Foundation. The tournament is open to all golfers whether they are Lions or not. The qualifying round of nine holes will begin at 8:30 a.m. There will be three flights, medal play, with tee-off time set for 10:15 a.m. Trophies will be awarded to three places in each flight, with other special awards for long drive and KP. The Foundation has grown to include an Eye Bank that has helped over 50 people to regain sight by corneal transplants. gross win John Edmundson took low gross honors in Saturday men's day action at Willow Creek Country Club. Edmundson fired consistent 34s for a 68 total on the water and tree ridden, par 60 course. His eight handicap gave him a 60 net score, worth fourth place. Dave Harrison was a close second to Edmundson, firing 34-35 for a 69 total. Harrison's 10 handicap gave him third place with a 59 net score. Gerry Daggett, using just 28 putts on the day, fired nine hole scores of 41-38 for a 79. His 22 handicap gave him the nod for low net honors. Francis Doherty, also with 28 putts, fired 37-35 for a 72. His 14 handicap gave him second place in net competi tion with a 58. Although Doherty, Daggett and Judge Carmichael had 28 putts each, Harold Kerr was designated the champ. Kerr, who also had 28 taps, won in a flip of a coin. Long drive went to Wil Phinney. ' Fall keeps creeping up on school life and that means football. Some football teams fn the area will start practice as early as this week and next. Heppner is in a slight bind at this time because there is no football coach. Chuck Starr, new lone principal.
