Anna joins her brother Adam, 18 months, in the family of Bette and Bill Haberlach. Bill, Justine's son, is an assistant district attorney for Jackson County. i Anna's other grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Barton Stevenson, Ahtanum, WA, and Frank W. Haberlach, Clackamas. - Inez Huffman has come home from Portland with Juanita Carmichael to visit and help Juanita during her recuperative period following recent open-heart surgery at St. Vincent Hospital. ' Not to be overlooked is . . . starting your fruits and vegetables for the fair in August, also check your fair books for the entry rules ... not to forget to have John Gochnauer to bake a Whearthearts Cake for the fair, I hear first prize might be his. Also, the CowBelles under the direction of their president Jean Bennett should be thanked for their good work at the dinners served during the 4th at the fair pavilion. Local cafe society will soon find its prospects brighter. We ' observe that Jim Roger's new restaurant, "West of Willow", near completion. Have you noticed the blue hills around Lena. From the Greenup Ranch east there are acres of blue lupine, more than there has ever been before. Amanda Duvall was able to walk the new ramp at her church last Sunday as she went to and from morning worship service 1; Irene Beamer Anhorn, daughter of the late Clara B. ! Gertson has moved home after 36 years of living in Central Point, OR. Irene was teaching school there, but chose Heppner for her retirement. Gaude Pettyjohn, San Diego, has been home visiting his parents, especially his mother who has not been well. Former citizens ill Garnet Barratt, former co unty judge, is seriously ill at Soaplake, WA. He suffered a heart attack as he returned there after the Memorial Day Pioneer Picnic here. Hazel Hamlin spent last week in Pendleton helping Helen Thompson who is back in her apartment there re covering from hip surgery. Helen was hospitalized in Portland and spent some time with her son and daughter-in-law, the Alec Thompsons before returning to Pendleton. Picnic set Sunday "Bring food bring a com fortable lawn chair if you wish, bring something for your children to play with and come meet new residents and enjoy old friends," say the Heppner United Methodists. They always picnic the second or third Sunday in July in the park back of the County Courthouse. This year they are making their picnic an occasion when the com munity can meet the new Methodist pastor, Steve Tol lefson and his family. The picnickers will be gath ering about 12:30 to 1:00 and will enjoy visiting and eating for an hour or two. announced Gene Crowell. GYM "X, V Mr, and Mrs, Stanley Weiper Lindstrom - Weiper Wed Susan Kay Lindstrom be came the bride of Stanley Theodore Weiper in a four o'clock ceremony June 26 at the lone United Church of Christ. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roy W. Lind strom, lone. The groom's parents are Mr. and Mrs. Theodore H. Weiper of Lower Lake, CA. Officiating at the afternoon ceremony was the Rev. Wil liam B. Graham. Escorted by her father, the bride wore a floor-length gown of candlelight ivory satin organza with high neckline, long full sleeves and cuffs, ending in a ruffle of Cluny lace. The close fitted bodice and full skirt were also trimmed with Venice and Cluny laces with deep lace trimmed ruffled hem ending in a chapel train. She wore a picture hat trimmed in Venice lace with face veil, with a bouffant bow and elbow length veil of illusion. The bridal bouquet was of ivory rosebuds, stephonatis, blue delphinium and baby's breath. Maid of honor for her sister was Christina Lindstrom, lone, and bridesmaids were Marcia Williams, Sacramen to, CA; Susan DuPont, Canby and Trisha Halvorsen, Her miston, all friends of the bride. They were attired in soft blue voile halter dresses with shawls and carried baskets of summer flowers. Best man was Rodney Weiper, Lower Lake, CA, brother of the groom. Groom smen were Bill Cox, Redding, CA; Steve Ellis, Lower Lake, CA, and Bob Butler, Vacavil le, CA. Flower girls were Elsa Wo Ithausen, Lower Lake, CA, niece of the groom and Angela Halvorsen, Hermiston. Stephen Lindstrom, Nor folk, VA, brother of the bride and Mary Stirchak, Belmont, CA were the candle lighters. Vocal selections were by Sandy Matheny, Portland, who accompanied herself on the guitar. Mrs. Lindstrom chose a floor length gown of soft green pleated chiffon with beiege accessories and Mrs. Weiper wore a floor length blue and beige knit dress with jack and beige accessories. Both wore orchid corsages. Honored guest at the wedd ing was the bride's grand mother, Mrs. Elmer Griffith. A wedding reception, dance and buffet was held following the ceremony at the American Legion Hall, which was de corated with daisies, wild flowers and ferns. The cake table was covered with a white linen heirloom cloth trimmed with harbinger lace. Those serving cake were Mrs. Otto Mortensen, Palm Springs, CA; Mrs. Frank Helina, Seattle. WA; Mrs. June Haugen, Lake Oswego, all aunts of the bride, and Mrs. Lance Hubener, Lake Oswego, cousin of the bride. Those pouring were Mrs. George Griffith, lone, aunt of the bride, Mrs. Garland Swanson, Heppner; Mrs. Cha rles O'Connor, lone; Nancy and Karen Haugen, Lake Os wego, cousins of the bride and Melissa Davis, Haines, Susan Strong, Redmond and Jean Healy, Portland, friends of the bride. Mrs. Reed Wolthausen, Su nnyvale, CA, sister of the groom and Mrs. Marvin Padberg, lone tended the guest book. Assisting with arrange ments for the reception were Mrs. Garry Rullis, Mrs. Paul Pettyjohn, Mrs. Earl McCabe, Mrs. Milton Morgan, Mrs. Darrel Wilson, Mrs. Marion Palmer and Mrs. Keith Rea. In charge of the buffet was Mrs. Arthur Lindstrom assist ed by Mrs. George Griffith and Mrs. Lloyd Morgan. Teena and Paula Lindstrom helped about the rooms. Music was provided by Gene Rietmann on the piano and Larry Graham on the drums. The bride attended Oregon State University and Eastern Oregon State College at La Grande, where she graduated. She is presently employed as a flight attendant for Western Airlines based in San Fran cisco. The groom is also a graduate of Eastern Oregon State College and has done graduate work at Chico State University, Chico, CA. He is currently teaching and coach ing at Kelseyville, CA, where they will make their home. Mr. and Mrs. Theodore H. Weiper were hosts for a re hearsal dinner and dance at Beecher's Cafe in lone. Book sale today Beginning at 7:30 tonight, Thursday, July 15, book lovers will have a chance to satisfy their bibliophilism at the public library. Four tables and several shelves will dis play a wide variety of books for sale. This summer special will hold prices between 5 cents for many interesting magazines to $5 for a rare collectible. The largest group of books offered is priced at 25 cents each. Among the most desired collectibles are 50 year-old Good Housekeeping maga zines with Jessie Wilcox Smith covers and some Saturday Evening Posts with Norman Rockwell covers. Until the end of July, buyers and "just lookers" are most welcome on the three Thurs day evenings between 7:30 and 9:30, on two Mondays and Wednesdays from 12: 30 to 5:00 and on the three Saturday afternoons between 2:00 and 4:00. They were Jeannie and Jackie Pascoe, Jordan Valley; Mary Fleck, The Dalles and Sharon Dunlap, Estacada. Jeannie and Mary were Cassie's roommates at college. Cassie celebrated her 20th birthday on July 3. The girls attended the Condon Rodeo. Mr. and Mrs. Loyd Harsh man of Milton-Freewater vi sited with Delsie Chapel and attended the Lovgren picnic July 4 at Anson Wright Park. At the Northwest Basketball Camp in Silverlake, WA, two lone girls received awards. Mary Kincaid, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lindsay Kin caid, received the Bantam League Award and Annie Murray, daughter of Mr. and mrs. Rod Murray, was reci pient of the Little Hustler award. Attending the Jr. Rodeo over the weekend were Mr. and Mrs. Dick Sherer and boys and Mr. and Mrs. Geo Childers and Laurie. In junior pole bending Brett Sherer placed third and Todd Sherer was fourth. Laurie Childers was third in the senior girls steer dobbing. CWA will meet in the city park on July 16 for thier annual watermelon feed. The meeting will begin at 2 p.m. If the weather is stormy the meeting will be moved to the Grange Hall. Visiting Mr. and Mrs. Leo Crabtree for the balance of the summer is grandson Tim Gelinas, Caldwell, ID. Visiting the Alvin McCabes is Jim McCabe. Jim is here to help with the harvest. Mrs Leo Crabtree, Cathy Mortar and children Roger and Linda; Jim McCabe, and Mrs. Crab tree's granddaughter Alysa, went to Kennewick to pick cherries. Mr. and Mrs. L.A. Millman motored to Burns to visit their daughter. Sunday was a good day for Leo Crabtree who spent the day with his family fishing at Camp 5. Leo hooked a whopper, 16" long, 5" across. Local residents reported that it was the largest fish they had ever seen come out of the lake. Congradulations, Leo! Mr. and Mrs. Del La Rue and family spent the weekend at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Gil bert La Rue, Milton-Freewater. The weekend consisted of a large family gathering. Mark and Lisa Meyers are spending the week in Everett, WA, with their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Graham. Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Childers have returned from their vac ation in Montana. They drove Mr. and Mrs. William Trainor, Richland, WA, to their class reunion. The Childers were away for six days and report they had an enjoyable and very beautiful trip. 120 I.R. Movie shown LEXINGTON A special preview showing of a video tape production "Helicopter Ambulance Safety and Res cue" was held at 8 p.m. at the Hot Lake Resort near La Grande. The 20 minute film is available for schools, clubs, organizations and health re lated agencies. It was produc ed with the cooperation of the Oregon Lung Association, Bo ise Cascade, Grande Ronde Hospital, and the Oregon State Police under the direction of William (Bill) Labhart. Mr. and Mrs. Labhart and family were former residents of Heppner. Mr. and Mrs. Labhart and his parents were present for the viewing as were Mr. and Mrs. C.C. Jones, Lexington.
