Midway came up with two important runs in the fourth and fifth while holding Kinzua to no runs. In the sixth, Smith slugged the ball into center field for a home run as he knocked in Lane. Kinzua is now 7-3 for the season, tied with Midway and trailing Erico and Smittys. Right fielder Mike Smith smashed a home run in the lixth and singled In the seventh to drive the winning runs across the plate as Kinzua beat Midway 11-10, in Softball action last Wednesday night at Kinzua. Kinzua came from behind in the seventh as they scored six big runs on numerous errors by Midway. Keith Curnutt started the rally with a triple. Tim Bellamy was awarded a base on balls. Lavern Van Marter singled to the shortstop which put Bellamy out and scored Curnutt. Then Midway allowed hits by Mike Rowell, Jamie Sands, Marvin Lane and Gerald Seal. Mike Smith stepped up to the plate and hit a single which drove in Lane and Seal for Kinzua 's winning run. Gary Kemp and Kevin Dick failed to hit safely. Midway came to bat in the bottom of the seventh with the score 11-9. The first man popped up while the next three batters got singles. Midway then flew to centerfielder, Tim Bellamy for the second out. Bellamy quickly passed to Curnutt who faked a throw home catching the base runner off guard for the third out. Earlier in the game, Kinzua scored one run in the first on Bill Baker's walk. Gary Kemp struck the first Midway hitter out and held them scoreless. However, Midway jumped back as they found holes in Kinzua's gloves and scored five runs. Both teams went scoreless in the third. Kinzua had a chance to score on Curnutt's triple but he was caught sliding h homer iosu Areo performers shine Jana Steagall tops Lakeview jr. rodeo Northeastern Oregon cowboys and cowgirls dominated the 14th annual Lake County Junior Rodeo two weeks ago, despite stiff competition from 219 entrants from five states. Lexington's Jana Steagall took junior cowgirl all-around honors. Miss Steagall took th Junior all-around title here in Heppner three weeks ago at the Morrow County Junior Rodeo. Other top winners from the area included Allison Sherrell, Hermiston, senior all-around cowgirl and Wade Bertsch of Stanfield, Junior all-around cowboy. Of the top four awards, northeastern Oregon competitors took three. Jana Steagall blasted her competition. She started off with a steer dobbing second place and before the rodeo was over, had gathered in three more top marks. She won the barrel racing, was second in the goat tying and took a fifth in the breakaway calf roping. Cowboys and cowgirls from Echo, Stan field, Hermiston competed well. Other local winners included Rocky Steagall, Irrigon, first in calf riding and tied in fifth in barrel racing. David Steagall kept the family name alive in Lakeview with a third in the team roping. The Lexington cowboy teamed up with Dave Schaeffer of Kennewick. Echo hands were Nolan Edwards, Lyle Nichols, Nita Nichols, and Lisa Snow.
