received In a letter to the
planning commission Monday
night, the council was Inform
ed. Mayor Chester Wilson also
reported to the council that he
had contacted Congressman
Al Ullman's office in Wash
ington, D.C. urging re-enactment
of legislation on revenue
sharing to cities under the
presently used formula.
Also under discussion was
the city's untenable position in
the designated critical ground
water area. It was noted that
Irrigon is the only city that is
so located. The projected
growth of the area cannot be
met with the present water
supply and the city has been
told that a second well cannot
be drilled into the basalt.
Five area persons were
among more than 2,000 Uni
versity of Oregon students,
honored during the Univer

Four students from Heppner
and one from Lexington were
honored. From Heppner, Rob
ert Henry Abrams, received
his bachelor of arts degree in
Asian studies and history;
Steven Anderson, received his
UMA in finance; Kim Anthony
Peterson received his bache

The council instructed May
or Wilson to make another
appeal to the Water Resource
Division for another well
based on the fact that the city
is less than one-half mile from
the Columbia River, and the
problems involved in mixing
surface water from the gravel
strata with the present source.
