It was also to bid the family goodbye as they leave for Fairbanks, Alaska, where Leland has been working since last Nov ember. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Bristow had friends and relatives over for Memorial Day and they were Colonel and Mrs. John Bristow and Linda and Doug from Lay ton, Utah; Mr. and Mrs. Tom Bristow and Shawn from Portland; Mr. and Mrs. Jim Bonerty and Jennifer of rui tmnu; Mr. and Mrs. Ernie McCabe and John and Laurie and Mr. and Mrs. Harsin from Heppner; Mr. and Mrs. Dave Rictman and Harold, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Rietman and Eddie and Ida Grabil all ol lone. Colonel and Mrs. John Bristow and family are mov Ing to Washington D.C. or , August 1; John will tx attending school there. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Wright 01 Baker are here visiting hei mother, Ida Grabil, for abou a month. The worship service of th United Church of Christ las Sunday included some musi cal arrangements by Mr. anc Mrs. Darrell James and family. Mrs. James sang a vocal solo, six year old Joel did a violin solo, a quartet was done by the whole family with Joel playing an interlude "Edelweiss" on his violin. On the different arrangements they were accompanied by Mr. James. The prelude, offertory, and Bible Vacation Bible school at the Heppner Church of the Naza rene ended last week. Boys and girls were involv ed with many crafts and activities during the session. The older girls completed lap robes and presented them to people at the Pioneer Memor ial Hospital. The boys made bird houses. "Holy Spirit Strikes Again" was the sermon topic given by Rev. Bill Graham. A coffee hour followed the service with Mr. and Mrs. Willard French in - charge. Mrs. French did the arrange ments of the alter flowers for the Sunday service. The annual Memorial Day program was held at the school grounds and presented by the lone Legion Post No. 95. Rev. Bill Graham gave the invocation and Matt Doherty was the speaker. Following this ceremony another one was held at the Pioneer Cemetery at Wells Springs. Fifty years ago on June 6 a dedication was held in memory of the pioneers and also marked as the spot were Colonel Gilliam died. The Legion recently erected a flag pole with a plaque at the base of It as a bicentennial project with the flag flying for the first time on Memorial Day 1978. The flag will fly on other special holidays too. The relatives and friends from out of town attending the funeral of Blanch Scheelar were Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Scheelar and John of Portland from Salem; Mr. and Mrs. Don Scheelar and Jim, Mark and Molly, Mrs. Steve Ger hard, Mrs. Jack Janssen and Tracie, and Mr. and Mrs. CD. Whitlcck; from Bellevue, WA. were Mr. and Mrs. Larry Scheelar, David, Deborah and Mary Ann; from Tacomn, WA.; Mr. and Mrs. Ron Crabtree; from Caldwell, ID.; Mrs. Sharon Gelinas and Fred Silva. The pallbearers were her five grandsons' John, Jim, Mark, and David Scheelar, Ron Grabtree and great grandson Ashley McCAbe. Irene Swanson has returned home from a two week trip to Los Angeles visiting her brother Mr. and Mrs. Phil Miller and family and a niece in Sonama, Calif. School All the children enjoyed a full week of interesting Bible stories, memory work and crafts. The boys and girls are now working on the children's musical, "The Story Telling Man." Creswick is a former Heppner resident. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. J. Van Winkle were weekend visitors at their home in Lexington from Portland where Mr. Van Winkle is receiving medi cal attention. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Mounts, Portland and Mr. and Mrs. Steve Mounts and children, Pendleton, were Lexington and Heppner callers over the weekend. . Library News Eloise Ebert, Oregon State Librarian, and Ralph Dela marter, Senior Consultant of the state library will come to the Heppner Library at 10 a.m. on June 22. Miss Ebert hopes to meet with the Heppner Library Board, the librarian and representative officials of the city and county to discuss Oregon Library Law, budgets, collection development and the long range program for library development in Ore gon. The Heppner Mer chants have picked July 9 as the day for the city's annual side walk bazaar. The event will be one day only. The bazaar will run from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. All organiza tions are invited to participate. Meeting canceled There will not be housing meeting at Farmers Home Adminstration Office in Pen dleton on Monday, June 14. The members will be meeting with the other Adven tists of this area at the annual camp meeting held on the Walla Walla College campus in College Place, Washington. Kelly The Kelly family reunion was held at Memaloose Park Saturday and Sunday, June 5 and 6. Due to illness, distance and previous obligations, part of the family was unable to attend this year.
