Mr. and Mrs. i Rodney Potter and family and , Vivian Post, Pendleton, at , tended the wedding. The couple will live near Carswell AFB, TX where he is stationed with the U.S. Air Force. They spent a week visiting his parents at Monu ment before the wedding. The groom graduated from Monument High School last year. The bride graduated from Hood River High School last year. Miss Tanya Richmond, dau ghter of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Richmond, Monument, and David Neel were married April 23, 7:30 p.m. at the Monument Grange Hall. The Rev. Bill Reed officiated. A reception was held in the hall after the wedding. They are living in the former Wave Jackson house in Monument. Peggy Murphy and Rilla Livingston were co-hostesses for a wedding shower for the Neels at the Phil Murphy home Thursday evening, April 29. Thirty people attended the shower. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Blakes lee attended a dinner given by the Adams Tractor Co. at the Sunset Cafe in JohnDay, Wed nesday night. Art Leyendeker, Grand View, WA, spent the weekend at his ranch here getting his cattle out on the range. He owns the former Jessie Emry ranch. Mr. and Mrs. Roger Nance and Martin, Portland, spent the weekend at their ranch, the former Ed Rounds ranch. Rilla Livingston, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Living ston and Peggy Murphy, dau ghter of Mr. and Mrs. Phil Murphy were chosen to attend Oregon Girls' State this year. The mothers accompanied their daughters to a brunch Sunday at the home of Mrs. Ella Baucum. Attending were girls from Prairie City, Mt. Vernon and Crane. Johnnie Howard and child ren Jay and Jonell, Tucson, AZ moved to Monument last week. They are friends of the Pete Post family. Jay is a freshman and Jonell a sixth grader. The Home Extension wo men will hold their next meet ing May 14 at the home of Sylvia Cockerel with potluck at noon. The meeting will be as before from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The topic will be "Money Saving Makeovers" and Mrs. Alma Settle will demonstrate rug making from scraps. Vera Gardner returned to her home in John Day after spending several days at the Mattie Stubblefield home. Mr. and Mrs. Dwayne Adams recently moved from Hamilton to Orovada, NV. Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Ruud and children. Monument, moved into the house vacated by the Adams. The Ruuds are em ployed by the Advern Pflu grads. Terry Pflugrad spent last week at the home of his parents, the Edvern Pflu grads, he attends Gem State Academy, Caldwell, ID. Mrs. Teen Miller and Mrs. Esther Brunk, , Bishop, CA returned home Saturday night after spending a week at Oahu, Hawaii. Mrs. Brunk is visiting at the Miller home. Mr. and Mrs. John Schu bert, Tri-Cities, spent Satur day at the Bill Neal home. The Neals spent Saturday evening at the C.J. Lawrence home. Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Neal and grandsons Bud and Dan Neal attended the Rodeo at Arlington Saturday. Carrie Neal accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Jim Richmonds to Ochoco Muzzle Loaders shoot. Mrs. Janet Hughes first and second graders and Mrs. May De Ette third and fourth grades went on a field trip Tuesday, to John Day. They toured the museum, fire de partment and the bottling company. George Stubblefield drove the bus and several mothers accompanied the stu dents. They had lunch at Gleason Park. The cemetery board met at the George Stubblefield home Thursday night with Bud Engle, a director and Mrs. Gary Engle, secretary, with Jack Cavender and Stanley Musgrave selected to approve the budget. Gus Peterson, board member, was absent. Mr. and Mrs. W.B. Thomas were recent visitors in Red ding. CA. The Thomas Greenhouse took their first load of plants for this season to Great Falls, MT. Mr. and Mrs. Bud Engle spent the weekend at the home of Janet Lewis, Pendleton. Buddy Lewis received se cond degree burns on his chest Saturday afternoon when a carburetor backfired. He was taken to John Day for medical attention. Due to his accident Mrs. Janet Lewis, Pendleton spent the weekend in Monu ment. Bobby Dean Hunt from Newport and Sharon Hunt, Albany, visited their grand mother Mrs. Fred Tubbs Sun day afternoon on their way home. They had been to Burns where they attended the funeral of their uncle. Walter Hunt. Win air The lone Cardinals won two crucial baseball games last week, beating the Sherman Huskies 10-9 Tuesday and downing the Heppner Mustangs 3-1 on Thursday. Joe Rietmann pitched thr win against the Huskies, allowing seven hits, striking out seven and giving up three walks. The Cardinals had four hits for the contest, two being home runs by Rietmann and Kim Gutierrez. The others were a triple by Skye Krebs and a single by Dan McElligott. The Cardinals broke a 9-9 tie in the bottom of the seventh inning on three Sherman errors. Thursdays game with Heppner was another close one with Kim Gutierrez getting the victory. Gutierrez allowed the Mustangs four hits, struck out eleven and walked three. The Cardinals put together five hits and played flawless defense until the sixth inning when the lone error in the game for the Cards accounted for the Mustang score. Todd Peterson poked a two run homer for the Cards in the third inning to break a scoreless tie. Others hitting for the Cards were Kevin McCabe and Joe Rietmann, triples and doubles for Gutierrez and Tim Cheney. Next action for the Cards is the final league contest against Wasco County, i nursday , May 13. This contest will be in lone at 4 p.m. It is a must game for the Cards as they must win in order to represent the West side of the league in the district playoffs. Little League results On May 5, the Dodgers edged by the Brave 14-13 as they scored 8 runs in the 4th inning to come from behind. Mike Walsingham and Kelly Crewse pitched for the Dodg ers. Earl Hammond pitched all the way for the Braves. Harry Groshens was the leading hitter for the Braves with 3 hits and a walk. Rod Cole led the Dodgers with two hits and three runs scored. Outstanding on defense was rookie 12-yar old catcher, Rick Klaus, for the Dodgers. On May 3, the lone Indians whipped the Dodgers 21-6 at lone. Hams was the winning pitcher. Pitching for the Dodgers were Connor, Cole, Sumner and finally Crewse to still the Indian bats. Taylor, and Guiterrez each scored four hits for the Indians. Rod Cole led the Dodgers with two hits. GIRLS HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS The high school girls track team traveled to Arlington on May 6 for the Big Sky meet. Janet McElligott placed second in the 880, second in the javelin and fourth in discus. Catherine McElligott was third in the 100 and third in long jump. Lisa Martin placed sixth in hurdles. The 880 medley relay team consisting of C. McElligott, L. Martin, K. Cofenas and J. Survivors include a daught er. Violet. Pendleton; sons, Gordon, Pendleton; George, Portland: Raymond, Hepp ner. and Wayne Sherman Oaks, CA: a sister, Lillian Malm. Orofino, II); two broth ers. Roland, Dover. ID and Harold. Ohio; 15 grandchild ren and 10 great grandchild ren. Funeral arrangements are pending at Burns Mortuary. VA KMZARETII PAYNE Mrs. Iva Elizabeth Payne. Heppner, died at Pioneer Memorial Hospital, May 6. She was born Oct. 31, 1889, at Mitchell, OK, the daughter of Charles and Amanda Bel cher Van Ordstrand She married Fred Payne June 20. 1905 at Mitchell. They moved to Dufur in 1923 and lived there until 1942 when they moved to The Dalles. She was a member of Ramsey Park Grange for over 53 years. In November, 1975, they moved to Heppner to make their home with their daught er. Mrs. Leroy Gardner. Funerul services were held Saturday, May 8. at the Spencer Libhey Funeral Cha pel, The Dalles, witn me Rev, Asa Jenson officiating. Mrs. Neil Wiidnan sang, "In the Garden", accompanied by Jessie Underhill. Casket bearers were Lynn Bolton, Grunt Mead, Dale Speeht, Wilbur Van Blokland, Jack Van Winkle and Tom, McAllister.
