The only parking meters that will be checked, are the ones in front of the post office. For one month we will be able to park free anywhere else without worry of a parking ticket. ' Claude and Rose Marie Buschke have just returned from a 64-day trip recently. With their trailer in tow, they traveled the southwestern states. i The Newcomers Club held their monthly luncheon last Monday with a good turnout. Roberta Klaus announced that there was still time for girls to ,join the Softball teams. Also any child could join the swim team, and that applications could be picked up at the grade school. Carol Kerr .explained to the women on 'how they could take an : inexpensive vacation, just by signing up for a weeks summer mini-course held at Corvallis. "The County Agent's office has all the details," she added. The next luncheon will be June 7 with Mary Kennison and Belinda Powers the club's unofficial hostesses. Mike Benge, son of Mr. and Mrs. Terrel Benge, who is in the Philippines, attending col lege, is studying for his masters degree in anthropolo gy. Mike hopes to return home in September or early October of this year. Bill Van Atta, son-in-law of Charlotte Doherty will be graduating from the Univer sity of Oregon Law School, May 15. He will be taking his Oregon State bar exam in late July. Bill attended Eastern Oregon State College, La Grande, before attending law school in Eugene. As you walk by the Lebush Shoppe, take a look at the beautiful quilt displayed in the window. The quilt was made by Mary Bailey who celebrat ed her 88th birthday this year. Sunday, May 9, a family Pot luck Supper in the church basement is scheduled for 6 p.m. to be followed by a talk by guest speaker Dr. Good win. He will tell of the church ministry on St. John's Island in South Carolina. Shirley Conner honored Twelve Heppner Degree of Honor members attended the association's state convention in Portland during the last weekend In April. They made fin howtng s they presented the flags wearing their long, navy blue skirts, whit blouses and red jackets. Shirley Connor was selected for the honor of escorting the National President Mary Reddick. St. Paul. MN. Eight een Oregon lodges were rep resented. The State Director Bea Clfluwn, Bend, presented a special tribute to the late Clara B. Gertson. State officers were elected; Shirley Connor of Ilfppner'i Kate J. Young Lodge No. was elected to serve as Slate Usher for four years. Others present were Valdys Farris, niece of Lana Pad berg, her daughter Chris and friend Steve Rainey, Portland. The only family unable to attend was Mr. and Mrs. George McDonald and child ren Leann and Cameron, of Omaha, NB. Four Mile Lunch The busload of Umatilla County historians who will follow the old Oregon Trail on Saturday. May 15, plan to lunch at Four Mile Canyon west of Cecil. We mistakenly stated that they would lunch near the Cecil Store. There is no museum planned there and the building is not considered safe. Members of the Morrow County Historical Society or other interested people are invited to join the tour and to follow the bus in their private cars, according to Mr. Larry Smitton, Pendleton. Possibly some members of the Gilliam County Society will join the caravan as it proceeds to the point where the pioneers crossed the John Day River. f VI- V i MR. AND MRS. ROBERT SKROCH Allstott-Skroch married in Heppner Cyde Marie Allstott, dau ghter of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Allstott, Heppner, became the bride of Robert Michael Skro ch, son of Mr. and Mrs. Emil Skroch, Darby MT, at an afternoon wedding Saturday, March 27, 1976. The ceremony was read by the Rev. Louis Perkins at All Saints Episco pal Church. The church was decorated with yellow and white daisies and green ferns. The bride, given in mar riage by her father, wore a long gown of white flocked or gandy over slipper satin with sheer organdy sleeves, with the deep apron ruffle on the skirt going to the waist in the back. Her floor length veil was held in place - -by a daisy, headpiece. Her bridal bouquet was of white daisies and fern, tied with green streamers. Her wedding gown was made by her mother and a friend, Joyce Holloman. Matrons of honor were Diane Stickney and Barbara Strahm, sister of the bride. Flower girl was Amy Strahm, niece of the bride. Candle lighters were Kaedene and Darcy Holloman. The atten dants wore long A line gowns of lime green with white daisy trim and carried nosegays of yellow and white daisies with green babies breath. Best man was Rich Crom well. Darby MT. Groom's attendant was Roy Skelton, Heppner. Ushers were David Allstott. brother of the bride, and Dennis Peck, cousin of the bride. Evelyn Allstott. Umatilla, aunt of the bride, was the organist. Special music "Time In A Bottle." was sung by Cathy Hoagland. College Place. WA, cousin of the bride, who accompanied herself on the guitar. For her daughter's wedding Mrs. Allstott wore a long flowered blue gown. The mother of the groom. Mrs. Skroch, chose a long turquoise gown. Also attending were grand mothers, Mrs. Dolly Allstott, Heppner, and Mrs. Christine Schmidt, Lewiston, ID. Following the wedding, a reception was held in the church parish hall. The bride's table was beau tifully decorated with a i tiered wedding cake, decorat ed tfith white yellow centered' daisies with lime green stems and trim. The cake was made by Mrs. Francine Evans, Irrigon. Pouring were Dorothy Jackson, Gresham. and Doro thy Allstott. Pendleton, both aunts of the bride. Cutting cake were Virginia Peck. Heppner and Laurel Butler. Mayville, also aunts of the bride. Kathy Hedman attended the gift table; Robin Riddle was in charge of the guest Ixiok. For her going-away ensem ble the bride chose an off white pant suit with brown accessories. After a short wedding trip, the couple are at home in Union.
