Dec. 18, 1975 Lexington New. a ften( Worship Services This Weekend A review of the past yean projects and activitiei, special guest speakers and guests, election of officers and plans for the coming year attracted a larger than usual number of CowBelles to the full business meeting, held In conjunction with the Morrow County Live stock Growers at the Elk's Lodge, Heppner, Friday. Officers elected to the CowBelles for the coming year are: President, Jean Bennett, Heppner; 1st vice president, Mary Martin, Lexington; 2nd vice president, Susie French, and secretary treasurer, Car ol Kerr, both of Heppner. Special guests for the after noon meeting were Dode Krebs, lone, president of the Oregon Sheep Growers Auxi liary, and Mrs. Bert Hawkins, CowBelles state beef promo tion chairman and wife of the president of the Oregon Cat tlemen's Association. Speak ing briefly to the group, Mrs. Krebs urged all groups in volved in agriculture to work In cooperation and support of all agricultural industries. A program of special In terest was presented by Jean ne Howell, Eastern Oregon chairman for beef education in schools. She showed educa tional information provided to all schools in Oregon by the CowBelles for use in meats education programs. Don Ostensoe, executive vice president of the Oregon Cattlemen's Association, told of new beef promotion mat erials available for use by. county groups, and pending legislation of Interest to live stock producers. He encour aged local groups to continue their activities in support of the livestock Industry. A sift of appreciation was presented to Gail Hughes, re tiring president, for her lead ership of the past year. Gail presented special gifts to Claudia Hughes, retiring secretary-treasurer and Birdine Tullis, promotion and publici ty chairman, in appreciation of their special contributions to the CowBelles. Morning events Included attendance at the livestock growers program, a special style show by CowBelles and livestock growers and the Farm-City luncheon. CTl fc o I w ' r S i- j ? Mrs. 3 Rick (Liz) Curtis, secretary of Morrow County Fair Board, Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Jones and Mr. and Mrs. AJvin McCabe, members of the Fair Commission, attend ed the Oregon Fairs Associa tion Annua Convention at the Sheraton Hotel, Portland Dec. 10-12. Wednesday's meeting and social hour was to bring the members up to date on Fair activities, to exchange ideas and review talents available for county shows. Thursday's meeting was opened by President Robert Cooper, Hermiston. The spea ker was Leonard Kunzman, Oregon State Director of Agriculture. At the Friday breakfast, Liz Curtis, Heppner, was master of ceremonies. Nan Dewey, legislative advocate, spoke on legislative activities concern ing fairboards. Talks were given on dog racing and grey hound breeding. Election of officers was held at this time. Robert Cooper, Hermiston was re-elected president. Friday evening's banquet was in honor of the new president and all past presi dents. Dancing was by a band from Eastern Oregon. CHRISTMAS SERVICES AT ALL SAINTS Special Christmas Services will be held at the All Saints Episcopal Church, Heppner, starting Sunday, Dec. 21. The complete schedule is as fol lows: Sun., Dec. 21-9:45 a.m. : Church school, Bible class. 10:30 a.m. Family Service of Holy Eucharist and Sermon, with the Rev. Tom Wand (missionary on furlough from Huslia, Alaska). 7 p.m. com bined Church School Christ mas Program. Smoked Sweet potatoes & yams No. 1, 29 lb. t Covbelles recipe Beef Sausage Try this new CowBelles recipe for utilizing ground beef, says Birdine Tullis, CowBelles Beef Promotion Chairman, "your family will like it and it is an excellent gift suggestion for those with lota of ground beef on hand." Beef Sausage: l'i lbs. ground beef (reg. 30 per cent fat) 1 tsp. salt 1 tsp. sage dash of thyme 4 tsp. black pepper Mix ground beef thoroughly with salt, sage, thyme and black pepper. Shape in a roll 2 inches in diameter. Cut 'i inch thick slices and fry in hot skillet. Makes IS patties or seven servings. Sausage may be stored in coldest part of refrigerator up to 3 days. For longer storage, cut patties and package with double thickness of paper between and freeze. When ready to use, remove the number of patties needed and begin cooking while still frozen. CHURCH NEWS The Assembly of God Chur ch will present their annual Christmas program, Dec. 21, 6.30 p.r. at the church. The children will present a program and the young people of the church will present a short skit. In addition to the childrens' program two short films will be shown. To tie up the evening Christ mas Caroling by parents and older children is encouraged. Last week 20 students of the Jr. High church class spent an evening of lessons and recrea tion at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Keith Rea. The Deaconnesses held their meeting and luncheon at the home of MrS. Helen McCabe. In the afternoon they visited the Heppner Nursing home. Bill Graham. Christmas Eve service will begin at :0.30 p.m. CHURCHES INVITE FOLKS TO YULE PROGRAMS A children's Christmas pro gram will be presented by the combined church school clas ses of the All Saints Episcopal Church and the Heppner United Methodist Church Dec. 21, 7:30 p.m. in the sanctuary of the All Saints Church. Both Rev. Edin Cutt ing and Rev. Tom Wand will participate in this service. The children will present Johanna Frederick's "Be cause Christmas" which they have been practicing under the leadership of their church school teachers. Persons who attend may bring gifts to share with needy families. Miss Lynn Gochnauer will serve as musician during the evening. Everyone is invited to a Christmas Eve service which will also be held at All Saints. It will begin at 9:00, Wednes day, Dec. 24. This service will be conducted by the Rev. Louis Perkins and the Rev. Edwin Cutting of the Episco pal and United Methodist Churches. Gail Hughes will preside at the organ that evening. CHRISTIAN CHURCH PRESENTS PROGRAM The Christian Church of Heppner will present their Christmas program, Sunday evening, Dec. 21, 7:30 p.m. Following a program of readings and songs by the primary and junior depart ments of the Bible School, the Christmas cantata will be given. The choir under the direction of Mrs. Dorene Grace, has prepared the cantata "The Prince of Peace" and the children of the Bible School will appear in the pantomine.
