Mrs. Micheal Kane is the former Leora Van Winkle Mr. Kane's brother has been spending a few days in Lexington, while he is driving to Hermiston where he is employed at the Lamb Weston Plant. Their bid on the effective rate over a 11 year period was .598G0. The Bank of Eastern Oregon was second with a bid of .600581, followed by First National Bank of Oregon with a bid of .60339. Inland Empire Bank submitt ed a bid of .6248. The total Interest the U.S. National Bank will pay over the II year period amounts to $487,164 58 with the last of the interest due Jan. 1, 1988. He was a veteran of World War II and was employed for several years at the Wagon Wheel Cafe and Lounge. Graveside services were held Wednesday, Nov. 26 at Heppner Masonic Cemetery with the Rev. John O'Brien of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, officiating. Sweeney Mortuary was in charge of arrange ments. Mr. Bettine is survived by his father. Charles Bettine. Renton. WA. and a sister! Margarite Medica. Seattle. WA. WILLIAM N. MONTGOMERY William Nimrod Montgoery, 92. Pendleton, formerly of Heppner. died Nov. 20 at Pendleton. Mr. Montgomery was born March 27. 1883 in Galveston. TX. He was a retired mill worker. Graveside services were held Saturday. Nov. 22. at 2 p.m. at Heppner Masonic Cemetery, with Rev. Ed Sikes of the First Christian Church officiating. Sweeney Mortuary was in charge of arrange ments. Mr. Montgomery is surviv ed by three daughters; Jewel Goodman, Pendleton: Alma Sasser. Wallowa; Margaret Kinne. Vista. CA; and two sisters; Eliza Mankins. Texas and Ann Bradley. California; 13 grandchildren and 7 great-granchildren. Obituaries TACIE MAY PARKER Word was received of the death of Mrs. Tacie May Parker. 81. a former resident of Heppner, OR and Walla Walla, WA. Mrs. Parker passed away Nov. 8, in a nursing home in Puyallup. WA. where sh" had been a patient two weeks for a lung ailment. She had been living at the home of her son in Puyallup for the past five months. Born in Milton. OR, August 27. 1884. Mrs. Parker was the oldest daughter of James and Julia Cypert who farmed in that area. Because of Indian uprisings and the fear of being attacked. Mr. and Mrs. Cypert and baby Tacie moved to Lex ington in 1886 to be near Mrs. Cypert 's family who had settled there. Tacie grew up and attended school in Lex ington. This was when Robert Wilcox was superintendent. . He, incident ly. passed away the day before Mrs. Parker. In 1904 Frank E. Parker and Tacie Cypert were married and settled at a homestead five miles below Lexington. A few years later Mr. Parker traded the homestead for five cows and four horses so that he could start farming south of Heppner. Mr. Parker died in 1961 after farming this area for over 40 years. Mrs. Parker than moved to Walla Walla and again moved in 1970 to a retirement home in Tacoma. WA. Mrs. Parker was a member of Ihe Central Christian Chur ch. Walla Wall, hut had been a very active member of the First Christian Church. Hepp ner. She was also a past member of the San Souci Re bekah Lodge. Ruth Chapter Eastern Star and Rhea Creek Grange. She is survived by a son. Onez Parker. Puyallup: a daughter. Mrs. Marjorie Hill. Portland; two sisters. Mrs. Inez Loney and Mrs. Mary Davis. Walla Walla: six grandchildren; one great grandchild and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Loyal Parker, a sister-in-law. is the only relative in Heppner. Cami and Mike Rounds. Miss Brannon was born Jan. 14. 1896 in Heppner. the daughter of Wesley and Ella Saling Brannon. She had lived in Lexington for the past 19 years. Funeral services were held Wednesday. Nov. 26. at the Lexington Church of Christ, with the Rev. Gus Nikander officiating. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Marquardt sang "The Glory Song" and "Good Night and Good Morning" accompanied by Mrs. Marquardt at the piano. Casket bearers were Ken neth Batty. Dean Hunt. Cecil Jones. William Marquardt, Raymond Batty and Ira Owen. Concluding services and interment were at the Hard man Cemetery with Sweeney Mortuary in charge of arrangements. Miss Brannon is survived by a sister. Pearl Green. Lexing ton; two brothers, Marvin Brannon. Mt. Vernon. OR: James Brannon. Heppner: and numerous nieces and nephews. CARL KNIGHTEN Funeral services were held for Carl Knighten. Arlington, formerly of Irrigon. Nov. 18, at Onley Cemetery, Pendle ton. Mr. Knighten died in The Dalles hospital. Nov. 14. 1975. He was born Sept. 19. 1894 in Grangerville. ID. He farmed and operated a fruit stand in Irrigon for a number of years. He was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Chur ch. Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Irrigon Grange. Survivors include a son Carl. Gladstone; sister Mrs. Maltie Dunn. Wrangell. AK: sister-in-law. Mrs. Tom Gur dane. Mrs. Norman Nel son. Mrs. Roy A. Lindstrom and Mrs. George Griffith. The family centered wor ship will be at the regular eleven o'clock services during Ihe four Sundays in Advent. Families are encouraged to attend with their children, who will be involved spon lainiously in the lighting of the Advent candles, in creating Ihe prayers and in dramatiz ing the sermon.
