SCHOOL LOOK Jogger Nylon Coach Portland's Old Church scene of wedding The Old Church, Portland, Oregon historical landmark, was the setting for the recent wedding of Sari Lynn Miller, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Warren S. Miller, Heppner, OR to Joseph F. Mitcham, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Harold Mitcham, Beaverton, OR. The Reverend Melvin Dixon of Milton-Freewater, OR presid ed at the ceremony. The church was decorated with three large baskets of multi-colored pastel flowers and candelabra set with white candles. Given In marriage by her parents, the bride wore a white empire styled gown with re-embroidered organza bod Ice and short puffed sleeves. The full organza skirt was fashioned with two deep flounces which ended in a self train. She wore a picture hat of re-embroidered organza with picot edging. Her bouquet of stefanotis, baby pink car nations, pink tea roses and baby's breath was carried in a white organza parasol. For "something old" she wore a silver brooch which had been worn by the great grandmother for whom she was named. Her diamond earrings, a gift from the groom, were especially de signed to match a necklace which he had presented as an engagement gift. Mrs. Larry Stewart, Port land, sorority sister of the bride, was matron of honor. Mrs. John Mitcham. Napa, CA. also a sorority sister, Mrs. Jim Lasky and Mrs. Jim Kimball, Portland, both mas ter's degree candidates with the bride served as brides maids. Their pink dresses were styled with empire waists, puffed sleeves and ruffled necklines. They wore hand made ribbon headpieces and carried white garden baskets. Both headpieces and baskets were accented with multi-colored pastel flowers. John Mitcham, Napa, CA. the groom's twin, was best man for his brother. Grooms men were Kevin Sherwood. Corvallis, OR, Kerry Viestenz and Jim Hansen, Portland. The bride's mother chose a rose pink jersey gown with draped bodice and long sle eves. The groom's mother wore pale green jersey with mandarin collar and long sleeves. Both mothers' flow ers were white gardenias. A reception was held follow ing the ceremony at the Aero Club of Oregon in Portland The parents of the groom hosted the rehearsal dinner at the Sheraton Portland the evening preceding the cere mony. Showers honoring the bride were given by Mrs. Jim Lasky and Mrs Jim Kimball. The bride is a graduate of Heppner High School and the University of Oregon. In August, 1975 she received a master's degree in Speech Pathology and Audiology from Portland State University. She is a member of Alpha Chi Omega, Alpha Lamda Delta and Mortar Board. The groom graduated from high school in Beaverton, OR and is a senior at Portland State University studying Ad ministration of Justice. Following a wedding trip to Victoria, BC, the couple is at home in Hillsboro, OR where the bride is employed by the Hillsboro Elementary School District as a speech correc tions! and the groom is employed by the City of Portland. Bicentennial king and queen Roy Edwin Ball, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jay Ball was born Nov. 22. 18 in lone, OR. He lived in the lone area until 1931 (except for 3 years spent in Waitsburg, WA. as a young child ), when he and his family moved to Boardman. He farmed all his active life, retiring in 1967. He was active in the Christian Church in lone and is now in the Community Church at Boardman where he is also active in the Greenfield Grange and the golf club. Flossie (Barlow) Ball was bom Feb. 14. 1900 to Mr. and Mrs. Franklin Barlow in Colby, KS. She came to Eight mile with her parents in 1902 and has lived in Oregon since then. She worked for the Pacific Telephone Company for many years, beginning her service in Heppner. In 1927 she moved to Boardman where she has since resided. There she began working for the U.S. Post Office Department as a substitute postal clerk in 1945, continuing until Jan. 1, 1954 when she became Postmaster. She retired from this position Jan. 9. 19. She has been active in the Boardman Community Chur ch since coming to Boardman. being Sunday School Supt.. teacher and choir leader. She has held many offices in the Greenfield Grange, was a charter member of the Board man Garden Club, and is just retiring as its president. Roy and Flossie have five children; Mrs. Glenn (Echo) Mallery. Seattle; Roy Ball Jr., Mesa. AZ; Albert Ball. Lin coln City; Franklin Ball. Pendleton; and Delbert Ball, , Boardman. OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOCK if LL Local 4-H'ers exhibit at state fair Two Morrow 4 H style revue champions will be participat ing in State Fair Style revue this week. They earned the honor of representing their county at state level In style revue contests at Morrow County Fair. Erin Evans, Irrigon, and Debora Palmer, lone will model garments exhibited as their projects in the state revue on Thursday, Aug. 28. Debora, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Palmer, lone will model her three piece polyes er outfit. Erin will be wearing her red corduroy outfit. Erin is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Vern Evans, Irrigon. Many Morrow County exhi bits will be evident at the State Fair. Every exhibit from the Tole Painting club led by Phyllis Piper and Eileen Padberg was sent to State Fair. Those exhibiting Tole were Susan Gray, Alice Ab rams, Janette Piper, Linda Keithley, Sharon McCarl and Anita Davidson. An outstanding food prep aration given by Jan Peter son, lone will be presented again for state fair audiences. Food exhibitors who will be showing their products at the state fair are: Christy Russel, Jeanne Row, Becky Hobbs, Julie Grieb, Kim Pettyjohn, Martha McElligott, Michelle, McElligott, Joan Doherty, Janet McElligott. Dr. Rich is a graduate of the University of Oregon and the University of Oregon Medical School. The couple plan to be married Sept. 27 in Portland. RECEIVES PROMOTION Larry A. Devine, son of retired U.S. Navy Chief Petty Officer and Mrs. Ray E. Devine of Heppner, OR., has received his first promotion in the U.S. Air Force. Devine, promoted to air man, recently completed bas ic training at Lackland AFB. TX. and is now assigned at Myrtle Beach AFB. SC. where he serves with a unit of the Tactical Air Command.
