Sthroeder. State Forest er. The law requiring the fees was passed by the 1975 State Legislature and became ef fective July 1, 1975. It is designed to help pay for administration and enforce ment of the Oregon Forest Practices Act. The law requires that a payment of $12 50 be submitt ed w ith each application for a commercial permit to operate powerlriven machinery. In addition, every operator who obtains a permit for yarding or roadbuilding on lands protected from fire by the Oregon State Department or Forestry will pity a per acre-1 fee. Fees for partial cuts are ten cents per acre, with the first 100 acres exempt. Road building fees will be computed on a per acre basis and charged as for clearcutting. Fees cover operations spe cified in the permits for one calendar year. Provisions have been made for any operator to establish a prepaid account with the Department of Forestry. Subsequent per mits can then be charged to the account. Forest operations excluded in the fee schedule are: cultural activities (including pre-commercial thinning . Christmas tree harvest and non-commercial operations i such as personal use wood cutting). Tr iifJiiWle-Time l.issifii-d Ad A year and a half ago the Oregon State Game Commis sion became the Oregon Wildlife Commission. As of July I. the Wildlife Commis sion merged officially with the Oregon Fish Commission to become the Oregon Depart ment of Fish and Wildlife. Last Friday Gov. Bob Straub swore in the new seven-member Fish and Wild life Commission. John W. McKean. previously director of the Wildlife Commission, was appointed acting director of the Department of Fish and Wildlife until the Commission selects a permanent director. For the time being. McKean said, the employes of the old Wildlife Commission will con tinue working from offices in Portland and the personnel of the former Fish Commission will continue to work from the State Office Building in down town Portland. McKean says the agency is exploring the possibilities of finding another building in the Portland area which would house all the employes under one roof. Although personnel will continue to work from two offices, the process of re organizing into a single agen cy has begun. McKean added, and will take top priority during the next two months. In the meantime the thing to remember is: There is no Game Commission. There is no Fish Commission. There is no Wildlife Commission. From now on it's the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, which consists of a commission, the director, and a staff of over 600 employes.
