work for library
The girls of the Future
Homemakers of America
chapter at Heppner High
School contributed many
hours of labor in a community
project this spring. They
made covers for 38 pillows for
the public library children's
room. The pillows got their
first use this week at the
Monday story hour.
The girls and their advisor.
Linda Panter. were thinking
about a service project at the
same time the AAUW was
developing plans for the
decorating of the children's
room. The University Women
contributed the funds to buy
the materials needed for the
pillow project.
Old pillows that had been
collected were restyled and
recovered with bright cotton
in a patchwork design. Most of
the covers have zippers so
they can be easily removed to
be washed. The colors used
were coordinated with the
paint used in the room.
COLUMBIA BASIN
IN RESEARCH PROGRAM
The Board of Directors of
Columbia Basin Electric Coop
took actions at their board
meeting on May 22 to partici
pate in the General Atomic
Gas-Cooled Fast Breeder Re
actor Program.
The Cooperative will lend
financial support for a two
year period for research and
design studies.
The Breeder research pro
gram has been concerned with
apparently low cost fuel
potential.

married for 64 years to Rosa
A. Robertson Neill. who pre
ceded him in death in 1967.
Mr. Neill is survived by a
daughter. Mrs. Floyd G.
Mathers. Portland, and three
sons. Hugh W. Neill. Spokane.
Wa.: Harold H. Neill. Junction
City: and Ralph C. Neill.
Woodburn.
He is also survived by 13
grandchildren. 30 great
grandchildren and 5 great,
great grandchildren. A dau
ghter. Beulah (Mrs. C.W.
Plourd of Hermiston. died in
lifi. A son. Clarence W. Neill.
Vista. Ca.. died in 1969.
Mr. Neill farmed in the
Heppner -Lexington-lone area
in the late 1800s and early
1900s before returning to
Missouri. He farmed in the
State of Idaho from 1913 until
1924. when he moved with his
family to Oregon and engaged
in ranching on Butter Creek
almost continuously for the
next 38 years.
For 10 years he farmed the
old Bovlen Ranch at Pine Citv.

Stanfield. In 1940 he returned
to Butter Creek, purchasing
the Richardson farm, which
he operated until selling in
l2. From 1945 until 118 he
lived in Hermiston on East
Highland Avenue.
A life-long member of the
Christian Church, Mr. Neill
was a charter member of the
Hermiston First Christian
Church where he served for
many years as an elder. He
was honored to have turned
the first shovel of dirt at the
ground-breaking when the
current church building was
started, and participated in
mortgage-burning ceremonies
there in December. 1973.

INJURED
Olivia Palmer, owner of the
Wagon Wheel Cafe and
Lounge. Heppner. suffered a
fractured wrist Monday night.
According to reports as she
attempted to leave a walk-in
freezer, she slipped, injuring
her wrist.
She was taken to Pioneer
Memorial Hospital.
