The Oregon Federation of
Garden Clubs sponsors a
Conservation Essay and Post
er contest. The theme this
year was on ecology and the
title was "Waste-Not".
The contest was judged
locally and the three place
winners in each division were
sent to District No. 10.
Local contest winners were:

Mr. and Mrs. Gerry George
(nee Arleta MeCabe) of Bea
verton are the parents of an 8
lb. girl born June 10. The baby
has been named Kristine
Michelle and joins two broth
ers. Micheal and Mark.
Grandparents are Mr. and
Mrs. Cliff George of Portland,
and Mrs. Helen MeCabe, lone.
Great grandparent is Mrs.
Mary Lindsay of lone.
Members of the lone Garden
Club spent June 11 at Ihe
mountain cabin of V'ida lleli
ker at the site of the old
Parker's Mill. Collection of
wild flowers in the area
brought a prize of the book
"Wildflower I" by Mrs. Kirk
Horn lo Judy Osmin who
collected the largest number.
About forty flowers were
collected and identified. Ob
servance of Flag Day was held
with the reading of "Just a
Piece of Cloth" by Pat Petty
john. Next month members
will attend a tour on July U.
which includes gardens in
Pendleton and the Bade Ran
ch in Milton Freewater. At the
short business meeting it was
announced that dues this year
would include a subscription
to the newsletter of the Oregon
Federation of Garden Clubs.
Mrs. Fred Martin and Mrs.
H S. Huber were appointed as
delegates to State Convention.

Mr. Gene Lancaster re
turned home Saturday from
St. Anthony's Hospital where
he had knee surgery the first
of Ihe week.
Mr. and Mrs. Elmo McMil
lan returned to their home in
Salem on Monday. They were
accompanied by Mrs. Adon
Hamlett. Mr. Hamlett met her
in Vancouver, Wa at the
home of their daughter. Shar
lone Arends, and they return
ed home on Thursday.
Mr. and Mrs. Milton Morgan
returned home after spending
a week in Montana and Yellow
Stone Park with the Western
Wheal Association.
Mrs. Sam Crawford is back
home after being in St.
Anthony's Hospital in Pendle
ton for a week.

Edmundson hired as

The Morrow County School
Board hired John Edmundson
as Ihe new assistant to the
county school superintendent
al ils Monday evening meet
ing at the district office in
Lexington. Edmundson has
been the principal of the lone
school for the past three
years.
The position of curriculum
coordinator was vacated last
July when Ernie Teale left Ihe
position. Al thai time the

position to assistant lo the
superintendent rather than
curriculum coordinator. Ed

high school in Hood River and
graduated from college at
Willamette University in

and Jeff an eighlh grader. The
Edmundson family has been
quite active In community
affairs since moving to lone.
Edmundson slated he will
remain in the lone position
until a replacement ii found.
He anticipates taking over his
new dunes sometime In mid-August.
