Men's Sunday play is underway; tee-off time is 9 a.m. for this weekly 18 hole event. New this year is a men's 9 hole, two-man twilight league on Thursdays at 6 p.m . Schedules for both these events will be sent to all members soon. If you haven't signed up for twilight league yet, be sure to attend tonight, and the schedule-makers will try to find a partner for you. Ladies' Tuesday play is officially underway, although the weather hasn't been too cooperative. The morning group will start play at 9:30 until school is out, with a sack lunch planned for the first Tuesday of each month. You working gals might be inter ested in the evening group with its 4:30 tee-off time We're all invited to golf with the Echo ladies on May 22. with coffee at 8:30 and golf at 9 oo. f)o attend if you can. These visitations are fun. The Walkathon will start at Long Creek and finish at Monument, a distance of 21 miles, although no one is required to walk any further than they are able. Sponsors will pay $1 per mile for each contestant they sponsor. The sheriff will patrol the road and there will be people stationed along the way with refreshments and rest-room facilities. Following the Walkathon there will be a ham dinner at Monument. To close the day with a musical note the Old Time Fiddlers Association is sponsoring a dance at Hard man that night. All proceeds from the acti vities w ill go to meet matching Federal funds to obtain a new norlhside ambulance. This will be a four-wheel drive ambulance, fully equipped. The present ambulance is well equipped bu! unable to cope with area roads, espec ially in the winter months. A total of six to eight thousand dollars is needed to match the Federal funds as the total cost of the ambulance will be between twelve and sixteen thousand dollars. Several are fish shaite and several have buds on top of them A lew newer ones are plastic Thev have come from many parts of the world Main rinn Bookworms hear Alaskan story (Her 20 years ago Martha Martin spent a winter alone in Alaska in a cabin along the rugged, forested coast. Her husband w as missing, or dead. Her right arm was broken, one leg was useless and she was awaiting the birth of a child. The introductory lines of her diary -type story of her experi ence state. "I can hardly write, but I must for two reasons. First. I am afraid I may never live to tell my story and second. I must do some thing to keep my sanity. I must order my mind, make myself think clearly. How can 1 better do this than by recording all that has happen ed, and all that may happen until I am released one way or another?" Madge Thomson selected this story to review for the Bookworms at their second March meeting at the home of Marian Brosnan. The story begins as the Martins were preparing to leave their isolated cabin for the winter. Don Martin took their outboard on a short errand. Martha hiked up the canyon trail for a final visit to their mine. A sudden storm broke. Martha was caught in a landslide, flung into the can yon and badly injured.
