resigns
The resignation of Perry
Pummel as police chief was
accepted with regret by the
Irrigon City Council at its
meeting Aug. 13.
Pummel also held the posi
' tions of chairman of the plan
ning commission and water
superintendent. These posi
tions were resigned also. Poor
health was given as the reason
for the resignations. No suc
cessor was named for the posi
tion of police chief. Rodney
Cayman was named water
superintendent.
Residents interested in serv
ing on the planning commis
sion should contact Recorder
Barbara Byrd and an appoint
ment will be made at the Sept
ember city council meeting.
The chairman will be chosen
by the planning commission
members.
The applications for liquor
license renewals were approv
ed for the Complete Food
Store and the C & H Market.
The recorder's office hours
were discussed. The office is
open four hours daily Monday
through Friday, 10 to 12 noon
and 1 to 3 p.m.. for conven
ience is paying water bills and
for other city business.

to Portland Tuesday where
Bob entered the University of
Oregon Medical School. Bob
had surgery Aug. 20.

son as hostess. The project for

Mr. and Mrs. Joe McMinn
and Patsy of Klamath Falls
arrived Thursday to visit Mr.
and Mrs. Bill McMinn and
family. They brought their
grandaughter, Sheri, home.
She had spent the past two
weeks visiting them.
Mr. and Mrs. Art Sparks
and Terry of Portland arrived
Friday to spend the weekend
visiting their son, Jeff Sparks,
and Mr. and Mrs. Herb Luper
and family.
Mr. and Mrs. Raymond
Reid and Mrs. Clarence Reid
went to Hermiston Saturday to
return Mrs. Reid to her home.
She had been visiting Mr; and
Mrs. Chuck Mitchell and
family the past week. They
also picked up their children
in Heppner at the Floyd
Wilson home, where they had
spent the past week visiting.

the Wheeler County Archers.
Although they have been
active it was in a different line
than usual. It entered a booth
and float in the Wheeler
County Fair. The booth won a
red ribbon Friday and at he
parade Saturday the float won
a blue ribbon. Thanks to
everyone's efforts and lo

the mercury really rose last
weekend.
On Saturday Sept. 21 there
will be a pinochle party at the
club house with a White
Elephant Auction to follow.
There will be homemade pies
as refreshments. Also an
advance donation of $1 each.
Henry Spivey has been
fixing a place in a soft dirt
bank where he can try the
broadheads out. There are
three or four targets near no.
17 target on the field round for
anyone wanting to use them,
as deer season for archers
opens Saturday, Aug. 24. We
have an area right in our back
yard, so good hunting to all
and don't forget to sign any
game on the sheets for award
competition.
