IS, 1)74 YCC youth are taught to appreciate wilderness High school students from all parts of the state will long remember the summer of 1974, spent on the Youth Conservation Corps program at Tupper. For many it was the first time away from home. For others It was their first experience with hard work. The 24 young people were chosen to spend six weeks at the Tupper canp, and 22 of them finished the course this week. They were taught the use of land values and land manage ment by experts in those fields. After an orientation class they were taken into the wilderness where their class work was put to practical use. They were taught the meaning of conservation, how logging affects forests, streams and fish. They were taught how to shock fish, and later went to Wilson Creek to build rock wiers for steelhead that were once plentiful there. They learned first-hand how the floods of the 1960s destroyed the natural habitat of the steelhead, along with their spawning grounds and the vegetation necessary for their Congratulations 4-H Club and Future Farmers of America ! Your time and effort in pre paring displays and exhibits for the 1974 Morrow County Fair are commendable. W. E. Nelson Co. Contractor and Builder Boardman survival. It was not all work for the young people, and they were not required to work without pay. There was plenty of social activity and field trips provided. More than 3,000 applications were received this year from youngsters who wanted to work in the seven different YCC camps. At last, a neat burglar Bristow noted that during the robbery several bottles of beer were broken in the store, but the culprits took time to clean up the mess by putting the broken glass in the trash can and the beer-soaked rags in the sink. No arrests have been made in connection with the burglary and authorities are still investigating. Don Bristow reports Bristow's market in lone was burglarized sometime Satur day night, Aug. 3. Several cases of. beer and bottles of wine were stolen. The robbery was discovered about 5 p.m. Sunday by Bristow, who reported it to Morrow County Sheriff and the State Police. Seattle Sunday where Mrs. Dickenson remained for a week's visit with relatives. Approximately 50 4-H'ers participated in the 1974 Mor row County 4-H Horse Show held here Sunday. All-around Champion Showman for the show was Mary Healy, Hepp rier, with Kathleen Evans of Irrigon as Reserve Grand Champion Showman. Mary Healy also won the All-around Champion Horse manship Contest, with Krynn Robinson taking the Reserve Grand Champion Horseman ship placing.
