I Page 4 Local Soroptimists earn high honors Greetings from Suroptimist Club of Heppner were ex tended to more than 1200 Soroptimists attending the "That's Who" Luncheon, a part of the 23rd biennial convention activities of the Soroptimist Federation of the Americas held at the Hilton Hotel in Portland, June 30 July 4. Theme of the biennium of Federation President Eileen M. Bidwell was "If not you, who?" with the owl as symbol. The Heppner Gub accepted the responsibility of providing pme cone owl favors for the special luncheon at which the many clubs attaining "That's Who" status were recognized for attaining the high goals set for the biennium. Heppner was on of these clubs. Each owl bore the inscription, "Greetings from the Soroptt mist Club of Heppner. Ore gon." Most of the pine cones were gathered for the club by the United States Forest Service, with addition al cones needed begged and borrowed from many sources. The Soroptimist Federation of the Americas is comprised of 13 countries in the Western Hemisphere. Presentation of the flags of the 13 countries by delegates in their native costumes was impressive. Speaker at the luncheon was International President Lida Brambtlla-Longoni of Milan, Italy. Soroptimist interna tional includes the American Federation, the Federation of Great Britain and Ireland and the European Federation. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs Robert Sicard of Boardman. The groom's par ents are Mr and Mrs Loren Brooks of Gresham. Dons Pitzer was organist, and John Heritage, soloist, sang "The Wedding Song." Following the wedding a reception was held at the parish hall The cake was three-tiered trimmed with pmk roses and pale pmk appie blossoms It was topped with white bells and a heart. GONTY'S Reta Phillips weds Gregory Grenfell Boardman Reta Irene Phillips, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Phillips of Board man, became the bride of Gregory W. Grenfell, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jack C. Grenfell of Portland, at a candlelight ceremony recently at the Boardman Community Church. The double-ring service was performed by Pastor Neil King. Denise Henkle played the nuptial music on the organ. Given in marriage by her brother. Albert Phillips, the bride wore a floor -length gown of white sheer silk over white silk, fashioned with empire waist and lace bodice. It had king sheer sleeves and a chapel train The skirt had scattered flowers on it. Her w aist -length veil w as held by a pearl and flower headpiece She earned a bouquet of pink roses and white carnations. Nora Pourier was maid of honor and wore a floor -length gown of green satin with empire waist and white lace bodice. She carried a bouquet of pink carnations tied with green ribbon. Bridesmaids were Neta and Teena Phillips, sisters of the bride. The girls are triplets. Dave A Cullup was best man. Ushers were Juergen Krannich and Bill Oyala Following the wedding a reception was held in the Fellowship Room of the church The three-tiered cake was trimmed with pink roses and green leaves, with white doves on top I" was served by Mrs Dennis J. Following a wedding trip to the coast the couple is living in Boardman where the groom is stationed with the U. S. Navy at the Boardman Bombing Range. Guests from out of town attended from Spokane. Port land. Eagle Creek. Medford, Bums, Hermiston and Irrigon. Lovgren reunion July 4 The annual Lovgren family picnic was held July 4 at Anson Wright Park with 60 members present. Alton A. Johnson of Coos Bay has compiled a genealogy of the Lovgren family that traces the family name back to the 16th century in Sweden Andres Petter Lofgren known in America as Andrew Peter Lovgren' was born in Sweden in 1824 and arrived in America in 1870. He and his family came to Morrow Coun ty m 1889. settling at a post office known as Davidson, later known as Gooseberry. The family became members of the Valby Lutheran Church. Andrew Lovgren died at Light mile. Sept 7. 1896 The first known Lofgren in Sweden, according io John son's genealogy , was a mer chant's son from Danng. Germany, who became ir.avor of Vast eras.
