I Heppner, Ore., Gazette-Times, Thursday, June 20, 1974 Irrigon orders crossing paved r A contract was awarded to the Hermiston Asphalt Pro ducts Co. at the Irrigon City Council meeting, June 11, to pave the 10th street railroad crossing between the highway and N. Main. i This street leads directly to ", the new park on the Columbia River, and is in much use this time of the year. A building code ordinance was adopted to bring city requirements in line with those of the state to be effective in July. . The city will not be doing the inspection, but has elected to allow the county to provide inspection and issue permits. Jack Cayman and Folix Friend were appointed to look for and purchase a rotary mower and tractor, within the budgeted price range. A resolution was adopted appointing Barbara Byrd to the office of city recorder and setting office hours at 4 hours a day, Monday through Friday after July 1. Mrs. Byrd assumed office May 15 under a motion passed by the council, but a resolution had been requested. The oath of office was administered to Mrs. Byrd by Mayor , Chester Wilson. Honor roll released Junior and senior high school students at lone schools have been named on final quarter and semester honor rolls. Mrs. Parent and daughters brought Mrs. Anderson home and spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Anderson, celebrating granddaughter Shelly's birthday and an early Father's Day. Alison Parent is currently staying with her grandparents. Mrs. Breeding ac companied her sister to Port land this week, where she took a Diane home. Gertrude Van Horn, Koos kia, Idaho, was a recent business visitor in Irrigon. She was accompanied by her children, Vicki, Kristi and Jeff, who visited friends in Salem. Maureen McElligott also attended the OSSP con ference. Mr. and Mrs. Mike Mat thews, lone, and daughter, Denise, Echo, went to Mon mouth recently to visit a nother daughter, Mrs. Patrick (Bernice) Thornton. They also attended commencement at Oregon College of Education where both Mr. and Mrs. Thornton received master's degrees. Family guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Berl Akers last weekend were Mr. and Mrs. Berl Akers Jr. and family, Pine Ridge, S. D.; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Akers and family and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Akers and son, Portland. Mr. and Mrs. Gar Swanson were visited last week by Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Swanson and family, Auburn, Wn. I01IE lone Swimming Pool Direc tor Maureen McElligott has announced swimming lessons have begun. Beginner lessons are at 10 a.m. and advanced beginner lessons are at 11a.m. Tuesday through Friday this week and next. It is not too late to sign up. Garden club program on patriotism The lone Garden Club met at the home of Mrs. Kenneth Klinger in Lexington, June 12. Mrs. Gar Swanson presented a program on patriotism and the American flag and asked that each member display the flag. Mrs. Van Hubbard and Mrs. Fredrick Martin, delegates to the recent Oregon State Federation of Garden Club's 47th Annual Convention, pre sented a program, "Reflec tions of the Big Green Coun try," which included high lights of the convention. The prize-winning club history book was on display, with many souvenirs from the convention. The next meeting of the Garden Club will be at 10 a.m., July 10, for a trip to Anson Wright Park. Ill 4 25,000 visited Cutsforth Park during 1973 Morrow County's Cutsforth Park has a gross income of $2,119.65 for the calendar year 1973, according to Everett Keithley, park manager. Keithley said the revenue is fees from 422 trailers parked overnight on the park's 10 available pads, 637 campers in the park, 200 tents pitched, and a total of 25,276 visitors. The largest single gathering was the Elks annual picnic Sunday which drew 300 per sons. The park is seldom at capacity, but most campers are there during the hunting season, he said. The park covers about 8 acres and has camping and picnicking facilities. It has a small lake stocked with trout, and is open from May until the close elk season in November. They were married at the Presbyterian Church in Grandview, Wn., June 9, 1949. Hosts were their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Rodney Tarter, and their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Ford and Mrs. Ford's mother, Mrs. Edith Brandenburg.
