Page 2 Senior Class Prophecy I had pulled into Lexington an hour early to pick up an old classmate at the Lexington International Airport. There I met cousin Joan McEUigott who had just flown in from Cambridge, Mass., where she teaches at Harvard. Over the years she has become a world reknown history buff and has recently tried her hand at writing. Her latest book is, "The Sinking of the German Navy." At any rate she was to be speaker for the 1986 Commencement exercises. On the way back to lone we talked continously about our old classmates. We both had read Kay Bergstrom's name in several leading newspapers. She's a regular Gloria Stienman. It seems that she recognized her calling in life when she fought the discrimination of the fair sex on the Pacific Northwest Bell telephone directory, clear back in 1974. Joan said that she had run into Melanie Ball and Teena Stefani on one of her lecturing tours. Teena is a New York socialite, still in search of her rich lawyer. Melanie has become an excellent secretary for the President of the United States. What got her the job was her extensive knowledge of tapes and bugging. Joan had been so excited about touching home territory that she almost forgot to tell me about her ride up. She had switched planes in Texas and by coincidence Kathy Gilbert was on the same plane, and had gotten off at Pendleton's airport. She had flown with royalty, as Kathy had recently been elected as Queen of the Hardman Rodeo, the biggest rodeo now in Oregon. Our classmate Mark Rietmann had only lasted a year at Tumble Weed Tech. As I had told him that he would, he had gotten married. He lost the family farm due to crop failure, but. . . he's kept busy now running a herd of registered angus and raising his family of thirteen children. Phil Carlson has also gone into farming. He was better off than Mark though ! The halls of learning had called him back. He had realized that education was important to youth and was now the Superintendent of Morrow County Schools. (And to think that we thought it was world problems he wanted to solve! ) Donna Wilson never did make it out of Morrow County. She worked even faster than Mark. Scott and she have built on to the Baker place to accomodate their sixteen kids. So much for being a Medical Secretary! We had just pulled up by Beecher's Restaurant when the car locked itself in second gear. (I never have had much luck with cars!) I called Independent Garage and Fred Sherman answered by phone call! I guess he went out of state for the training but came back to be the garage's main mechanic. While the car was being fixed we decided to take a look over the town. Many buildings had been added on Main Street for the city had done much growing. We hadn't walked but a few feet when I read the first sign -"Rowell's Western Wear." We peered through the door and I could have sworn I saw Candi behind the counter. We went in though and sure enough it was Candi. The store was crowded so we left. I guess they're making good, though I never thought they'd try this. Back on the street again we were ready for anything. There was a Sear's store farther down the block so we went into it just for kicks, we had time to spare with nothing to lose. We asked the clerk who the head of this outfit was. She replied, "Paul W. Ashurst I". I guess he had worked up the ladder and finally reached the top. Joan and I were ready to believe anything now. Across the street there was this catchy modern little white building. We went over to get a closer look at it and what should we see on the door but - "Dentist-Kevin Gutierrez, Your teeth are my teeth." Thinking of his mouth as much as he does I guess I shouldn't have been so surprised that he should care about other's too. We went in to say "Hi" and who should be behind the desk but Jan Ekstrom. We both knew she had gone to school to learn the art of picking teeth. She said that the big city life had called her back. We asked her if she had heard anything from our old classmates, Doris McCabe (Berry now) and Cheryl Ployhar. She said that Doris was still in Hermiston raising her young family. They have four kids; Ras, Blu, Goose and Straw. Twins were on the way, so the doctor says. Cheryl had found a job that summer we graduated, at the mill. She didn't like the indoor work. Now she's lumberjacking in the mountains. Bob's home with the apron strings raising their two kids. Jan also added that there were big doings tonite at the school. Our old classmate, Mickey Hoskins, had become another Michealangelo. She had finished her ceiling paintings at the school house that she had been working on for the past ten years. To celebrate the occasion, another old classmate, now a famous singer, Cassy Chapel was going to put on a benefit concert for the school. All my classmates went places, it seems, after our graduation clear to the top! For some reason the conversation had gotten onto food. Jan said that John Marick had just opened a new Sea Food Cafe on Main Street and it was the rage. Joan and she decided to eat lunch there, but I passed it up, I had developed some self control around food, besides it was time I got back to work. I told Joan to find a ride home and I'd call her later. I figured the car must be done by now with Fred fixing it. I had a forty-five minute drive to the other side of town ahead of me, so I best hit the road in order to get back to work at a decent time. You see I had finished college on the ten-year program and had recently become the Accountant for "Meyer's Inc." (I guess he had finally pinched enough pennies to need one.) I had also learned some new tricks to save on money. I sure hope he is understanding about my being late! MARY PAT McELLIGOTT JOAN McELLIGOTT ELECTIONS The lone Student Body held elections recently and results were as follows: In the office of President, Joel Peterson was chosen. Mike McEUigott was also a candidate. Charlie McEUigott was elected to the office of Vice President from the field of Rick Peterson, Skye Krebs, Glen Griffith, and Joe Riet mann. For Assistant Secretary Treasurer the school picked Arlynda Aldrich over Lori Bergstrom, Lauretta Piening and Terry McE'lligott. Gayle McNary won the position as Annual Editor. She was the only student running for this position. For the position of Editor of the "Cardinal Spirit" Cindi Martin was chosen. Terry McEUigott was also running. Varsity cheerleaders for next year are: Sherri Wilson, Gayle McNary, Terry Mc EUigott, and Catherine Mc EUigott. Junior Varsity cheerleaders' are Donna Palmer, Dawn Peterson, and Debora Palmer. Directed by Mr. Thomas R. Blaylock, the group consisted of 28 singers and several accompanist, some who were recognized as local residents. Fourteen of the singers took part in a special vocal ensemble, which sang several songs. With songs ranging from the "Pater Noster" to "Smile'' the group entertained students for almost an hour. The group was good, and all the students enjoyed their presentation. CATHERINE McELLIGOTT May 2.1,. 1974 1973 Graduate Report Wondering what happended to last year's marvelous seniors? Well here is a brief report on the happenings of that class: KATHLEEN McELLIGOTT is attending the University of Portland where she is majoring in Nursing. This summer she . is working at Larry Lindsuys'. DAVE WARREN is currently at OSU, majoring in Engineering. He lives at the Alpha Sigimt Phi Fraternity. Dave will he home working for the summer. DICK SNIDER is majoring in Agri-Business at BMCC. He ployed JV Basketball and was on the Baseball team at BMCC. MELISSA McELLIGOTT attended Carrol College in Helena, Montana where she is majoring in nursing. She is working this summer for Francis Carlson. GREGG WILSON is going to OSU where he is majoring in Engineering Physics and belongs to the AGR Frat. He is employed this summer at Hiembigners. JERRY PETTYJOHN is going to BMCC, after working in Heppuer the 2nd term. He is now majoring in Communications. KENT GUTIERREZ is also at BMCC. He is majoring in Physical Education and whs on the College's Baseball, Track, and JV Basketball team. CHRISTINA LINDSTROM is attending Pacific Lutheran In Tacoma, Washington where she is majoring in Communi cation Arts, and Journalism. ED WINKLEMAN, after going 2 terms at EOC. majoring in General Science, is now home, working for Larry Lindsay. NANCY ASHURST, after attending BMCC for 1 term, majoring in Nursing, is now home working for Slim Emert. ANN HOSKINS is at BMCC where she is majoring in Education and minoring in Basketball. She is living at Gihhon and will be doing ranch work this summer. DAVE McNARY is working at the Auto Parts in Milton -Freewater and is living with his "Granny." JOHN RIETMANN is attending college in Monmouth where he is taking General Studies and Liberal Arts. He will work this summer. KAREN CROWELL is married to Doug Conners and is presently living in Hermiston. D-ANN HLOODSWORTH is living in lane's trnilor court and works at MCGG. Her husband Jim, is employed by Kinzua Corporation. DONAL McCARTY is in the navy for 4 years and is stationed near Memphis, Tennessee. Cassandra Chapel-Go to EOSC in LnGrande; major in Elementary Education and minor in Music. Candi Mansfield-Get married and live in lone.
