Heppner, Ore., Gazette-Times, 5140,400 bond issue at Irrigon A bond election Is set for the City of Irrigon on May 30. If voters approve the $140,000 issue of general obligation bonds, major im provements will be added to the present municipal water system. This amount would be . paid back over a period of 40 years. Special attention has been given in planning toward fire prevention. The proposed lOO.OOO-gallon storage reser voir will assure adequate water for domestic use and for fire fighting. The original water system was designed to reach those homes where service was desired, and ended with many deadend lines. These are to be incorporated into a grid. The proposed 11 fire hy drants will be located to give maximum protection to existing homes and busi nesses. Other proposed im provements include an alter nate power source to assure continued operation of the facilities during a power outage. The 4-H Rockettes launched their new club Saturday with an election of officers. This is a rockhound club for girls, with Mrs. Polly Johnson as leader. This is Mrs. Johnson's first year as a 4-H leader, and the five girls are first-year members. There is a boys rockhound club in Irrigon also. Next meeting is May 29. Both clubs have a rock polisher purchased with pro fits from the 4-H plant sale. It has become a tradition for area churches to present a Bible or scripture portion to each graduating senior of Riverside High School at the baccalaureatte service. This year Living Bibles were presented by the Assembly of God of Irrigon. The Boardman Community Church, the Irri gon Baptist Church and the Assembly of God joined in the gift-giving. Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Mesteth returned to their home in Irrigon Friday from New Boston, Tex., where he has been employed at the Red River Arsenal. They expect to return to Texas for the summer after a two-week stay here. Their son and daughter, Joe and Rosie, will return with them. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Trudeau of Boardman have purchased Wicklander's General Supply. They are presently doing business as Imperial Hard ware. The Trudeaus will stock electrical and plumbing supplies, gardening tools, and sporting goods. At a later dale, they will also have household appliances. Henniston 5 1 S m too late! s 23, 1974 Irrigon adopt 5 budget The Irrigon City Council adopted a budget of $41,245 at their May 14 meeting. This includes local taxes in the amount of $2,128. . Rodney Gayman was hired as utility man for part time work. A resolution was passed to allow county or state agencies to do the building inspection on any future building. The city will not be responsible for this. The council authorized a call for bids to purchase a light tractor and rotary mower to help keep the streets free of weeds. Barbara Byrd, who was appointed last month to suc ceed Mary Wilson as city recorder, assumed her duties at this meeting. Barbara and her husband, Bob Byrd, reside at the former Al Partlow home where the post office was formerly located. Byrd now has an insurance office where the post office was, and Mrs. Byrd will use this office. Water bills may be paid there. Mr, and Mrs. Glen Merritt, Arlington, Wn., visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Vic Lovgren, lone, May 20. They also visited at Hardman on Monday. Port gets funds for water, sewer A $1.5 million loan and a $110,000 grant have been received by the Port of Morrow, it was announced last week. The monies are to finance construction of a water and sewer system for a food processing park. Regional Director for the Farmers Home Administra tion, Lou Baxter, said the loan will be announced by the Oregon Congressional dele gation within the next 10 days. Cost of the project is $1,710,000. The Port will pro vide the $100,000 not included in the loan and grant. Details on the first phase of bids should be available in about 10 days. Final bid material will be sent to prospective con tractors about June 20. Treatment of industrial and domestic waste in the pro cessing park are included in the system. The industrial waste treatment facility will be permanent; but the sani tary waste facility will even tually be tied into one planned by Boardman.
