Page 4 Karl Urban to lecture here "Eastern Oregon Wildflow er Heritage, a slide presen tation by Karl Urban, will be offered to the public Monday. March 11. at the Heppner High School Cafetorium at 7:30 p.m. The Heppner Garden Club is sponsoring the program, for which there is no charge. Urban, a native of Idaho, migrated to Eastern Oregon six years ago. He received a bachelor of science degree from the University of Idaho in 1963 and continued graduate studies at the same institution, receiving a master of science degree in 1968. He has been employed as an instructor of biology and botany at Blue Mountain Community College since that time. After spending sis seasons of employment with the Na tional Park Service among the lava flows and cinder cones of the high desert of Southern Idaho. Urban authored a book. "Common Plants of Craters of the Moon National Monu ment." A second book, which he COUNTRY CLUB NEEDS WOMEN: Lady golfers of Willow Creek Country Club will organize plans for the coming year during a coffee hour Friday. Candlemaking techniques demonstrated Methods of candlemaking were explained to Mothers Club members by Linda Johnson a! her home during jhe March 4 meeting. Mrs. Johnson outlined tech- I niques used in making a basic solid color candle. She gave cautions and tips for a - successful product, which in- . eluded careful control of wax temperature. Methods of making chunk, occasion and decorative candles were covered. During the business meet- ing. members finalized plans f for volunteer work at Pioneer Memorial Nursing Home. Each week four members are scheduled to do the women parents' hair during the month of March. The club s money-making protect, a bake sale prior to Mottier's Day. was discussed. This book will be available at his lecture. Urban is interested in envi ronmental problems and con servation issues. He is a back Autograph party, open house set The Book Worms Club has announced that it will sponsor a no-host luncheon at the Wagon Wheel Cafe. Saturday, March 16. for author Mildred Searcey. Mrs. Searcey, author of a new book. "We Remember When." will be in Heppner to autograph her new book at the library open house that Satur day. The Book Worms are holding the luncheon so that interested persons may have the opportunity to visit with Mrs. Searcey. The luncheon will begin at noon. He is presently spending his summer months on native plant inventories of the Wal lowa, Blue, and Steens Moun tains of Eastern Oregon. is sponsoring the open house at the library to encourage local citizens to drop in and see what's happening at the library. Heppner, are an nouncing the engagement of their daughter, Glenna Diane, to PFC Gordon Wayne Walsh, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Walsh. Arlington. Miss McLachlan is a senior at Heppner High School. Walsh is a 1972 graduate of Arlington High School and is currently stationed at Fort Lewis. Wn. The couple is planning a June 8 wedding at Hope Lutheran Chruch. Heppner. CowBelies launch "Eat Beef" drive The Morrow County Cow Belles have launched a cam paign for new members; and to educate women on good, economical use of beef this month. Membership Chairman Mrs. Allen Hughes has issued an invitation to women on the county to join forces with the CowBelies and promote the local industry. Members are welcome who are "friends of the beef industry" as well as those who are directly asso iated by production. CowBelies membership requires a limited amount of lime and effort. Main event of the local group is sponsoring the Father of the Year Contest and a family barbecue honor ing the winner. An annual meetng is held each fall in conjunction with the Morrow Livestock Growers, and a spring luncheon complete the year's activities. This year a special educa tion program, a Mini-Beef-a-Rama. is to be presented in Morrow County March 27 at the Heppner Elks Lodge at 1:30 p.m. All women of the county are invited to attend. The program will spotlight good eating and economy Sharing Caring Eastern meals with beef. Valuable door prizes will be awarded, including a smokeless broiler, meat cuts, cook books, beef dinners for two at a restau rant, and a host of other prizes relating to the beef industry. Mrs. Gary Grieb, CowBelle president, said, "This is the biggest event we have ever attempted, and we especially want to invite those women who are new in the area to attend." CowBelies would like more local business women and wives of business people to become involved in the group's public relations work by joining the organization and promoting one of Morrow County's industries.
