'poor'
pheasant season opened
Saturdav, and early reports
indicate the hunting in this
area is below par.
The w eather was blamed for
the poor hunting conditions, as
a light rain fell over the area,
forcing hunters lo remain In
their cars and out of the fields,
Some hunters agree the only
way to hunt pheasants is to
tro'mp through the fields and
flush the birds.
Although the birds seemed
plentiful before the season,
there appears to be a scarcity
at the present.
A game check was held by
the Oregon State Game Com
mission last Sunday evening,
and citations were issued for
the possession of hens and in
some instances the disguising
of the sex of the bird. Some
hunters had skinned their
pheasants, and could not
produce the head of the male
bird, which the law requires
for transportation.
Arrested in the game check
were Lloyd Myron Ostrander,
56, and Charles Eugene Cham
berlain. 23, West Lynn, Ore.
Both men were arrested for
transporting game birds with
out fully feathered heads.
They are scheduled to appear
in Justice Court Oct. 30.
