In the absence of Mrs. Roy Rail, president, the meet ing was conducted by Mrs. Waller Hayes, vice president. Hull call was answered by naming a fruit tree Club members have been asked to save cancelled post age stamps for World Gar dening Members w ill furnish treats for the Blue Birds to take to the Good Samaritan Center in Hermiston. Oct. 29 Mrs Rollm Bishop read an article "Insect Control is for the Birds." and Mrs. Frank Marlow presented a program on walnuts, their care and culture. The club will furnish favors (or the patients at the I'ma tilla Hospital for Hallowe'en Mrs. Walter Wyss won the prize in a Hallowe'en game and Hazel Carpenter received the door prize. The next meeting will be at the home of Mrs Wyss, Nov. 19. at 8 p.m. The Home Extension unit met Thursday at the home of Mrs. Chub Warren. Mrs. Warren and Mrs. Tom Harri son were leaders of the project. "Vegetables with a Flair". Mrs. Warren pre pared a parsnip and apple dish, and a beet dish: carrots were prepared three different ways. Mrs. Harrison cooked a squash dish in her electronic oven Mrs. Donald Baker cooked a Chinese dish in a Chinese wok. Mrs. Warren McCoy of Irrigon was elected secretary to replace Mrs. Arnold Hoff man, who resigned. The meeting next month will be at the home of Mrs. Rollin Bishop, Nov. 19, at 10:30 a.m. Subject will be "Community Service." with Mrs. Richard Ryan of Irrigon as leader. Mrs. Ralph Skoubo was hostess for a shower at her home Tuesday night of last week in honor of Mrs. Stan Rauch and four-week-old daughter, Jennifer. Co-hostesses were Shirley Earwood, Mrs. Harry Noble, Mrs. John Harvey, Mrs. Bill Bates and Mrs Delmer Hug. There were 21 present. Guests from out of town were the honoree's mother-in law, Mrs. Irvin Rauch of Lexington, her sister, Lynda Baker of Hepp ner. and Sharon Witherrite of Echo Mrs Irvin Rauch and Miss Baker assisted the hon oree in opening her gifts. There were five tables of pinochle in play at the card party held Tuesday of last week at the Greenfield Grange hall, sponsored by the Wom en's Activity Committee of the grange Mrs. Chub Warren was hostess. Mrs. Arthur Allen won high prize and second high went to Hazel Carpenter. Mrs. Car penter and Mrs. Don Downey received the traveling pi nochle prizes. Mrs. Ed Cooney entertained with a party at her home last Thursday in honor of the first birthday of her daughter Jennifer. She used Hallowe'en decorations and the small guests all came in costume. Those present were Mrs. Dan Parris and Sarah and Lynda Jo, Mrs Dennis Grigsby and Denise, Mrs. Gay Newman and Kristina, Brian Akesson, Troy and Chris Graham, Betty Lou and Eileen Stinette, Frances Sharkey, Nicki Booth. Mrs. Denver Grigsby and Mrs. Howard Davis. Kristina Newman received the prize for the best costume, and in a dancing contest Denise Grigsby won the prize. Mrs. R.F. Peterson of Whit tier. Ca., visited a week at the home of her granddaughter, Mr. and Mrs. John R. Woods. Mr. and Mrs. Emery Sample of Seward, Alaska, are here for several weeks' visit at the home of their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. John Harvev. Other winners at a recent Ladies Day for Best Ball were Barbara Russell, Kaye Trum bull, Lucy Trudeau and Sally Green of Arlington. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Ball, accompanied by Mrs. Ball's brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Truman Messenger of Lexington, have returned home from a two week trip to Grass Valley, Ca.. to visit at the home of the ladies' brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Barlow. They also went to Citrus Heights. Ca.. to visit at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Al Macomber, former residents of Arlington. They took a trip to Reno. Nev., and Virginia City. On their way home they visited overnight in Eugene at the home of (he ladies' other brother and sister in law. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Barlow, and the Balls went to Lincoln City to visit at the home of Balls ton and daughter in law. Mr. and Mrs Albert Ball, and the Mes sengers visited in Newport at the home of their ton and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Franklin Messenger. Their last stop was in Portland at the home of the Messenger's son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Messenger. Irrigon Mr. and Mrs. Henry Fro berg and Evalind Ingalls attended the 50th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Myalt in Tacoma, Wn. He is a brother to Mrs. Froberg and Mrs. Ingalls. They also visited Mr. and Mrs. John Weatherby in Custer, Wn. Mrs. Ruth Coy was taken to the Good Shepherd Hospital in Hermiston by ambulance. having suffered a stroke Mrs. Coy taught school in Irrigon and Boardman for many years. After retiring from teaching the was the city clerk for Irrigon for several years, Mr. and Mr. Marsh llarrell have sold their farm and have moved to the Pete Robins place, near the Columbia River.
