Joiner, editor publisher of the Heppner Gazette-Times, will speak at the first fall meeting of the Heppner Branch of American Association of University Women at the home of Sue Duncan, 370 E. Aiken, Satur day morning, Sept. 8. Joiner will speak at 11 o'clock. Officers are asked to assemble at the Duncan home by 10:30. Propective new members are especially invited and are asked to telephone Karen Mitchum at 989-8253 for ar rangements to be escorted to this meeting. Women who hold degrees from certified univer sities and colleges are eligible for membership in the AAUW. Mrs. Clara Gertson flew to St. Paul to attend the national convention of the Degree of Honor Protective Association. Mrs. Gertson has attended every national convention since 1951 when she was Oregon's delegate. There were five others from Oregon attending. Grace Wachsmuth, Portland, state president, was named to a national commit tee. Each state presents gifts to the president and secretary. Oregon presented them with a potted rose bush from Oregon.
