By MAKIK MctjUAKKIE The Fair coming up and school beginning soon is the time when people are taking advantage of these last week ends to go places they didn't get to during the summer. This is the natural thing to do and is probably why there were fewer out for the barbecue Sunday. However, there were about 20 partici pating and that makes enough for 5 foursomes to play. Bev Gunderson had low gross and least putts and tied with Vi Lanham for ,a low net. Among the men, low gross was won by Eddie Gunderson; low net, Ed Heimstra ; and least putts, La Verne Van Marter Sr. The men are still having a good turnout for their Sunday morning and Wednesday eveing plays. If you haven't been out for these two scheduled golf meets, go down this week and you will see what you have been missing. Sorry the TEE-CUP was missing for a couple of weeks, but the writer took a little vacation. I 1 first week in together! 1 Bowl AUCTION Aug. 23, 7 :30 Bruce Young, Don McEwen and Mike Bandhagen dive into the pool at the recent lleppner swim meet. The three young awimmert competed in the 100-yd. individual medley. Linda Bier, Heppner. Winners in the silk screen and freehand oil painting division were: 1st, Kristi Edmundson, lone; 2nd Jan Peterson, lone; 3rd Dee Hed man, Heppner. Linda Keithly, Heppner and Anita Davidson, Lexington, took blue ribbons with tole painting. Millie Yocom, Lex ington, won a 2nd place, and a second entry from Linda KeithJy placed 3rd. Ricky Rea, lone, got a white ribbon for his felt tip artwork. Tamie Brannon, Heppner, won a first with her tempura, and Joan Warren, Heppner, got a first with her burlap picture. Shannon Kelly, Hepp ner placed first in china painting. Teen pottery winners were: kickwheel, Randy Cole, Hepp ner, 1st; Peggy Schlichting, Heppner, 2nd. "'"' r , Macrame winners were 1st, Ruth Ann Keithly, Heppner, and 2nd, Tami Brannon, Two does shot near Heppner Roice Fulleton, Heppner, reported to State Game Offi cer Vic Groshens Tuesday that someone had killed two deer on or near his property within the last few days. Groshens found one deer near a road south of Heppner and another 100 yards away in a field. Both does had been shot. Groshens requests that any one having information about the incident contact him, in strict confidence. Women bowlers meet Tuesday The Spare-timers, women's bowling league, will meet Tuesday, 7 p.m. Aug. 28, at Fiesta Bowl. This will be an organization meeting to discuss league by-laws, and to make sure all teams are ready for the fall league. Twelve girls, 10 to 16, will put their horses through the jumps. They ride bareback, controlling their horses with a tac rein, leg pressure, balance and voice. This girl is doing the free form high jump, and extends her arms for showmanship and balance.
