II7J i Goings on in Kinzua ; r i. ..f lono By EVA HAMLETT A third reunion of the eight living children of Mr. and Mrs. Barney Marick was held in the lone City Park, Aug. 19. The parents orginally set tled at Olex in 1911, and many of the offspring have remain ed in the area. Fifty-eight attended the potluck dinner and spent the afternoon visiting. The eight sons and daughter and their families attending were: Mr. and Mrs. Al Marick, David and Laura, Adolph, Frank, and Henry Marick, all of lone; Mr. and Mrs. Vincent Marick of Park dale; Mr. and Mrs. Steve Marick of The Dalles; Mr. Paul Marick, Olex; Mrs. Rose Fanger, and son Bernard, Condon. Other relatives present were: Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Marick and Brian of Park dale; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Fanger Jr., Mary Ann, and Joe, The Dalles; Miss Fides Welp of Mt. Angel; Mr. and Mrs. Warren Penny of Pasco, Wn.; Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Richardson, Debbie, Glenda, Vickie, Tammy and Cyndi of LaGrande; Lewis Marick and Agnes Fanger of Seattle; Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Byer, Becky, 1 Susie, Mel, Ken, and Dave, 1 J,. Guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Martin and family were Mr. Martin's sister, and husband, Mrs. Rocky Petersen and Mr. Petersen of Waterloo, Iowa. They arrived Aug. 6 and during their stay they visited the Pendleton Woolen Mills and went to the coast, where Mr. Martin and Mr.Petersen spent a day deep-sea fishing. Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Nelson Jr. returned last week from a vacation in the Bend Area. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Petty john Sr. drove to Portland Wednesday. They were ac companied by their grand daughters, Kimmy, Kelly and Krity. Paul- Pettyjohn Jr. picked up the girls in Portland Thursday and drove to Sea side to spend the weekend. Mr. r : ! V X o and Mrs. Paul Pettyjohn Sr. returned home on Thursday. Joel Engleman and son Frankie spent last week fishing at Seaside. Mr. and Mrs. Clifford A' drich drove to Dona I Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Al drich drove to Donald Sunday to bring home their daughters. Arleta and Arlinda, who have been visiting with their grand parents, Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Christopherson. Mrs.' Adon Hamlett spent Tuesday in Walla Walla. Wn.. for a medical checkup. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Goodrow of Oroville, Ca., spent the weekend in lone and Condon. Sonja and Cody have been working at Condon during the summer, and returned home with their parents. Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Meyers, Mark and Lisa, returned Saturday from a vacation to Disneyland. Ca. While there they saw Jnncl Palmateer. Mr. and Mrs. Meyers attended the East West Shrine game 'in 'Baker Saturday. ,l Roy Lindstrom drove to Baker Thursday, where on Friday and Saturday he at tended the Shrine ceremonials at which a large class of candidates were initated. Mrs. Lindstrom and Chris went up on Saturday. A large number of people from here attended the game, and were proud of the showing Ed Winkleman made. The committee for the class reunion to be held Sept. 2 met at the home of Mrs. Lewis Halversen Wednesday even ing. It was decided to include' the class of 1932, We still have been unable to locate some teachers. Antono Lindstrom, Charles Christ ian son and Ed Kramer. JACKSON BACK IN KINZUA Mrs. Hazel Jackson re turned Aug. 12 to her home in Kinzua after a two-week trip to Salem and Gresham where she visited relatives. Dinner guests at Mrs. Jack son's home on Sunday were Mr. and Mrs. Bill Nichols and Melissa of lone, Mrs. Linda White and Troy of Lexington and Mr. and Mrs. John Jackson Jr. and daughter of Kinzua. Todd became parents of their third son, Eric Douglas, Aug. 16, at Good Shepherd Hospital in Hcrmiston. He joins brothers Gary and Clinton. Mr. Verlin Connor was in The Dalles Friday for medical care. Mr. and Mrs. Pat Shannon of Pendleton were weekend , guests at the Jiggs Bowman home. , Mr. and Mrs. Gene. Mann- ' lein of Eugene spent the weekend visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Allen Heim and daughter Ericca and attended the Wheeler County Fair and Rodeo. They also visited with , relatives in Fossil. Mrs. David Mattison and Mrs. W.I. Jewel were in The Dalles Tuesday for dental care. Also in The Dalles Tuesday were Mrs. Troy Day and Mrs. Bob Hire. Harold Mangum was taken to Emanuel Hospital in Port land by ambulance Saturday morning. Harold was injured in a logging accident Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Cox and family of Roseburg vis ited during the weekend with Archie Cox. Weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Samples and family were Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Hollomon of Heppner. Mr. and Mrs. Herb Luper and family left Friday for a vacation along the coast. Mr. and Mrs. Don Pike and son Bruce went to Portland Sunday where Mr. Pike enter ed Good Samaritan Hospital for treatment. . Mr. and Mrs. Guy Williams and family visited with rela tives in Eugene and Blue River over the weekend. ' Dale Sinclair of Caldwell, Idaho, arrived Friday to visit with Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Reid and daughters. On Mon day, Mrs. Reid and Mr. Sinclair went to Portland where Mr. Sinclair had med ical care. Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Sexton of Yacolt, Wn., visited this weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Barzee. Mr. and Mrs. Don Hardwick went to Baker for the weekend to visit relatives and to attend the Shrine game. Mr. and Mrs. Kendrick Dunlap visited friends in Grass Valley over the week end. Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Cecil went to Milton-Freewater over the weekend to visit with Mr. and Mrs. Rod Hastings. Mrs. David Mai and son Scott are spending this week visiting with Pastor and Mrs. William Mai. Also visiting the Mais this weekend were their daughter, Mrs. Pat Palmer, and family of Arago. Mr. and Mrs. Martin Potter and daughter Becky of Lex ' ington and April Lacy of Condon were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. W.I. Jewell. The Friendship Club was entertained Wednesday even ing with Rose Merry Nelson as hostess. High went to Pat McMinn with Irene Samples winning second high. Pinoch les went to Bonnie Campbell and Ruth Carey. Others play ing were Cindy Weaser, Sue Mattison, Dinah Jackson, Hallie Spivey, Barbara Heim, Sharon Bell and Evie Luper. The Kinzua Mountaineers - Square Dance Club hosted a Camper Weekend and Dance, Aug. 18 19 at Camp Five. There were seven squares of dancers coming from Bend, Pendleton, lone, Madras, Prineville, Redmond, LaPine, Heppner, Condon, Olex, Fossil and Kinzua. Darrel Wilson of the lone Grand Squares was the caller with Slick Fox of the Bachelor Beauts of Bend being the guest caller. An After-Party was hosted by Herschel Murdock. Saturday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Norris were Mr. and Mrs. Ray Murray and Mr. and Mrs. Les Ashby, all of Madras, Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Saddler, Glen Perins and Herschel Murdock of Kinzua and Marvin Dale Saddler of Portland. Mr. and Mrs. Dempsey Simms returned the first part of last week from a 10-day vacation to Yellowstone, Mon tana and Idaho. Mr. and Mrs. Dean Teel, Heppner, went to Lakeview to pick up their three children who had spent the last six weeks visiting their grand parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Owens. Ladies ... go western! Mrs. Ralph Skoubo was co-hostess. Plans were discussed for having a booth at the Harvest Festival and a float in the parade. Mrs. Rod Flug was appointed chairman of the float committee, assisted by Mrs. Carroll Donovan, Mrs. Frank Bates and Mrs. Joe Bartlett. The Boardman Lion's Club will have a dinner at the Greenfield Grange hall Aug. 27 at 7:30 p.m. for members and guests. Mr. and Mrs. Albert Ball of Lincoln City were weekend visitors at the home of Ball's father and stepmother, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Ball. Saturday visitors at the Ball home were another son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Franklin Ball, and children, Barbara, Karen and Tony, of Pendleton. There were three tables of pinochle in play at the card party held Tuesday of last week at the Greenfield Grange hall, sponsored by the Wo men's Activity Committee of the grange. Mrs. Ben Donovan was hostess. High prize was won by Mrs. Verne Minnich and low went to Goldie Woelpern of Arling ton. Mrs. Walter Wyss and Mrs. Sam Beeks of Arlington received the traveling pinoch le prizes. Mrs. Hazel Miller and Mrs. Rod Flug and son Troy went to La Grande Sunday to visit at the home of Mrs. Miller's son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Vern Carpenter, and to attend a music recital in which her grandson, Russell Carpenter, participated. Mrs. Walter Wyss went to Portland Saturday with Mr. and Mrs. Charles Anderegg of Pendleton to attend the funeral of their son, Bill Garvison, 55, who died Aug.
