The eggs hatch out in several days and the worm burrows its way down into the ear where it feeds and grows through the rest of the summer. To prevent this from happening, dust or spray the ear tips with Malathion or Diasion to kill the young worm before he gets into the ear. On both corn and beans, as well as other vegetables in the garden, watch for the pres ence of spider mites.
