She visited o sister-in-law In Stock ton, Calif, before flying to Honolulu. She was met in Honolulu by her son Elmer Mulkinsand his daughter Mary. They returned with her to Sent tie mid she drove home from there. Her son Jokingly culled her a 'Tuck Ilut" because she brouuht buck ho iiuiny momentocs from Hawaii, including o chunk of lava from the volcano that erupted in May. Fu mily Reunion Irritton residents who attend ed a Hiukley family reunion, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Mike Hiukley in Ontario, Ore., in cluded Mr. and Mrs. Rogue Hiukley, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Hiukley and Marge Shade. Visitors at the home of Mr and Mrs. Muck Shade this week were Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Farley and Irene Pettil from Utah. The women are sisters to Mrs. Shade. Another sister Lillian Creamer from Richland is visiting at ther son's home, Mr. and Mrs. Dan Creamer. They are going deep sea fishing on the Oregon coast, this week. Visiting Mrs. Eva Hammond of Sem poria, Kansas, is visiting in the home of her sister-in-law Mrs. VV'.F. Coy, this week. VV.F. Coy has gone to visit his brother. Homer Coy in Toronto, Kansas. He is traveling with bis son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Glen Coy and family of Hermiston. They plan to visit another son Ralph Coy and family in llartlesvillv. Okla. and a sister in Colorado Springs, before returning. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Eggi niann ofTaeoma, Wash, visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs. E.A. Stephens on Sunday. Mrs. Eggimann is Stephens neice. Dinner guests at the Stephen home on Fathers Day, were their son and family, Mr. and Mrs. Clarke Stephens of Umatilla. Ruby Davis of Tucson, Ariz, is a visitor at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Davis. A grandson Kevin Gailo is also visiting this week. "What is more enjoyable than a day in June especially when that day is spent on a picnic In the mountains," ho say the Committee of Womens Activity of Uhca Creek Grange. The ladies met ut Anson Wright Memorial Park on Thursday for a day of visiting, good eating and of planning summer grunge projects. Anyone wishing to plun or construct a booth for the grange at the County Fair is asked to contact Mildred Wright, Chairman. The shingling of the Grange Hall was reported completed with a special "thank you" given to those who have contributed in time and money to make this possible. To Harold and Kenneth Wright for the use of their tractor and truck and other aid making it possible to do the job at this time, and to Hob Stevens, Marion Hayden, Gerald Bergstrom, Elmer Pal mer, Barton and Ned Clark, and Rudy Bergstom, also Don Heliker and Larry Sullivan. Now they are waiting for rain to test their work. There will not be a pot luck supMr before Grange at the July 13th meeting. The meeting will start at 8.00 p.m. with refreshments afterwards. The CWA will hold their meeting on July 21st at the home of Muriel Palmer, an afternoon meeting. Mr. and Mrs. Barton Clark attended State Grange at Grants Pass as delegates from Pomona and Rhea Creek this past week. Beth told a few highlights of her week there and some of her experiences on their trip to Japan. The people of Japan were most courteous and she enjoyed her trip there. Mrs. Flay Wright shared the history of an uncle and his family, the Cuppers, who came from England in the eighteen eighlies and settled in the Monument area. They made their home on Cupper Creek, as it was named after the family. Those attending were Evalyn Fan-ens, 01 la Ruggles. Pearl Wright, Onia Cox, Ray and Eva Wright, Waller and Mildred Wright, Velva Bechdolt. Judy, JoJeun and Johnny Stevens, Mary Wright, Beth Clark, Emma Drake and Muriel Palmer w ' Death Takes Louie Brown Three member f the first graduating class from Spray High School in 1923 were present at the Spray School reunion held June 1(1 17. 1973 in Spray, Oregon, Class members present were Erma (Daven port) Barry of Dayville, Ore gon; Ijuirel (Banter) Kelsey of Spray and Charles Roycc, Jr. of Yakima, Wash. All the members of the 1935 graduation class were present. They included Effie Snabel Slirewalt of Kimberly: Norma Duvenport Rood of Ml. Vernon; Ada Anderson Simpson of Pendleton: Leora Gochenour Stephens of Spray, Ore. Registration for the reunion began at ten a.m. Saturday in the gymnasium with Mrs. Grace Younce in charge of the gest book. The afternoon was a time for renewing old friend ships and reviving old memories. A spaghetti supper was serv ed by the ladies of the Assembly of God Church in the school cafeteria. A dance w as held that evening in the gym with the music furnished by the Outlaws of Mitchell. Oregon. A few min utes after midnight, the ringing of the old school bell brought back many memnnc of days gone by. A ham, egg and pancake breakfast was ivrved Sunday morning by the church ladies. Reverend James Billings of Prineville brought the message at the all denominational church service held in the gym, Marilyn Ingersoll and Selma Brill rendered special music for the occasion. A community pot luck dinner was served following the church services. , Prizes were awarded Sunday afternoon to Ron Davenport, Venie Anderson, and Jim and Effie Slirewalt. Ron Davenport of Carniichael, Calif, received the prize for coming the farthest to attend the reunion. Ron is the son of Warren and Anna Davcnort. former Spray residents. Mrs. Venie Anderson of Brookings was the oldest guest present. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Slirewalt had the most children present. Approximately WK) guests were present for the two day school reunion. People came from Oregon, Washington, Cali fornia and Idaho. In I97(i, another reunion has been scheduled. The reunion committee is to be congratulated on the success of the event. Ilardnan Reunion Pleases Many By CASSANDRA CHAPEL Time slood still for a few hours on Father's Day when 105 Ilardmanitcs gathered at the Hardman Community hall for a reunion. The day started with invoca tion by Wayne Leathers follow ed by a pot luck noon dinner. This dinner featured all the best from the kitchens of those who attended. Wayne Leathers of Long Creek, was Master of Ceremonies, telling some of his early experiences as a boy in Hardman. '(We are still wonder ing who the gal was he danced his first dance with ). He gave a detailed and amusing account of his first plane ride. Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Leathers were in charge of the plans for the reunion and many thanks go to them from all who attended. Wayne gave special thanks to Margaret Prophet Rutlege for her fine job of advertising, to Sam and Debbie McDaniel for cleaning the hall and to Juanita Carmicheal - for her help and support. After dinner, old time H:.ncin0 followed. Music was furnished by Earl Cramer and Sec- you Wallv Ralston of Hermiston and someone Mrs. Clarence Howell of Irrigon. The out of state home comers were - Harold Cox of Dallesport, Wash.; Bernard Cox of Lyle, Wash.; Mr. and Mrs. Archie Leathers and family of Boise, Idaho; Mrs. Margaret Thomas of Walla Walla; Mrs. Sylvia Leathers Lake formerly of Southern Calif., who has recent ly moved to Union. Tad Osborn of Toppenish, Wash.; Joe Bowden of Fresno, Calif, (who came the farthest to spend the day with old friends.) The oldest person there was Frank Howell of Monument and the youngest gal was Janeal Griffith who is a few months old. Name plates were worn as time has a way of making changes. The same officers were held over for next year. Esther Burnett has returned to her home after surgery, at Good Shepherd Hospital, Hermiston. She plans to go to Portland for further treatment next week. Louie Dale Brown died June 21 in Ilwuco, Wa. Mr. Brown was born in 1901. He farmed in the Heppner area from 1929 until 1905 when he moved to Washington. He was a member of the Elks Club for 32 years. Survivors include his wife Lena of Long Beach, Wa.; a daughter, Mrs. Jonene McGraw of Bremerton, Wa.; three sisters and two grandchildren. Funeral services were held in the Tenpentilla's Chapel of the Sea in Long Beach, Wa. June 23. Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Johannes yj e glad to be home again after a vacation trip as far east as Swansville, Minnesota. Here they attended a family reunion on Father's Day. While they were there Mrs. Johannes' mother and sister and brother-.in.-jaw come from Green Bay, Wisconsin to meet them. Enroute to Minnesota the Heppner couple had gone through Glacier National Park and into Kevin, Montana. Here they visited a brother ivir. Johannes hasn't seen in 30 vears. Business took them to Thunder Bay, Canada before going to Minnesota. Enroute home they came across South Dakota Badlands, saw, the Mt. Rush more Me morials, visited Deadwood and Dead Man's Gulch and saw where Custer made his last stand. , As they drove across Montana white crosses are placed along the highway at the spot where a motorist had been killed. Two Join Army JEFF MARSHALL Jeff Marshall has three Months to say good-bye to his family and friends. Jeff has enlisted in the Army Medical Service under the Delayed Entry program. "The advantage of enlisting in the delayed program is to allow the young man or woman to reserve the school of their choice and the area they would like to be assigned," said Sergeant Jerry Schmadeka, local Army representative. Jeff enlisted for the Eye. Ears. Nose & Throat Specialist School and selected Fort Car son, Colo, as his choice of assignment.
