kept coming and more tables
had to be put up. Because some
of the high school students had
other meetings to attend. Band
director Larry Hildebrandt pre
sented these awards first.
Top Awards
The top high school band
award, the John Phillip Sousa
award went to Shannon Kelly.
Activities, attitudes, citizenship
and all around bandsnianship is
considered for this award. Anita
Davidson was named as the
outstanding musician and
James Marquardt the most
improved. Shannon also receiv
ed the outstanding service
award.

ABILENE, Tex.-Airman
First Class Carroll W. Musick,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne
Musick. Rt. 1, Potlatch, Idaho,
is a member of a Strategic Air
Command wing which has
earned the U.S. Air Force
Outstanding Unit Award.
Airman Musick serves at
Dyess AFB, Tex., as a vehicle
operator with the 96th Combat
Support Group which received
the award for exceptionally
meritorious service from July 1,
1971. through June of last year.
The airman's unit was cited
for over -all professionalism,
high standards of logistics and
administrative support and for
fulfilling widely varying re
quirements of several other
major air commands.
His wife is the former Jeannie
L. Shuman. Airman and Mrs.
Musick have one child. Anna.
Banquet & Dance
The Heppner 8th graders
banquet will be held on Friday,
May 25, at 6:30 p.m. at the Elks
Club. The 8th grade mothers are
preparing the food and it will be
served by 7th grade girls.
A dance, sponsored by the
Elks Club, will follow the
banquet at 8 p.m Members of
the Soroptimist Club will serve
refreshments at the dance.
The banquet is for 8th graders
exclusively, but 7th graders are
invited to attend the dance.

The Girls Little League Team
No. 1 met on May 17th and had
practice.
The girls selected "Streak
ers" as the team name and
elected Kim Bolander and
Laurie Malcom co-captains.
The most sought after team
position is that of "first base."
Because of so much interest in
that position, it will be neces
sary to have "try outs" for that
spot.
