Irrigon Klection Mrs Ted (Mary) Wilson was appointed as City Re corder to succeed Mrs. W.F. foy who resigned in October because of illness A letter of appreciation to Mrs. Coy was signed by all council members and was read by Mayor Chester Wilson. Mrs Coy had served the City 4 years. Allan Langenwalter was present to review the Audit Report with the council for fiscal 1972 The report was approved Election results were tab ulated and the votes were canvassed. The 3 incumbent councilmembers were re elected These were Elbert Eppenbach. 61 votes. Elva Sanders 58 votes and Vernon Stewart 64 There were 5 additional write-ins for council positions including. Warren McCoy 3. Jack Gay man. Don Adams. Dick Clark and Bud Horn each receiving 1 District VII Homemakers Advisory Meet Morrow. Umatilla and Union county extension homemakers advisory groups met Monday in Pendleton to hear the latest news on activities relating to the family living program in their counties and statewide, discuss mutual interests and problems and share ideas for strengthening the Extension family living program. Dorris Graves. Heppner. District VII Director, chaired the meeting. Evelyn Funk, Extension Assistant State Leader, OSU, Corvallis, reported news from state level concerning Oregon Extension Homemakers Council and the Extension Service. Molly Saul, Extension Agent. Umatilla County, Mona Haasch. Extension Agent Union County, and Birdine Tullis. Extension Aide, Morrow County, assisted with the meeting. Methodists Meet At Arlington By Justine Weatherford A workshop for the leaders of small Methodist churches drew representatives of ten churches to the Arlington church on Wed., Nov. 8. Rev. Cutting met with the area ministers during the afternoon and Mrs. Cutting. Mr. and Mrs. Herman Green and Mrs. WW. Weatherford attended the dinner and evening work shop. Miss Jennie Youngblood, Nashville, Tenn., was the workshop leader. She has ben conducting similar workshops throughout the northwestern states. District Superinten dent George Emerson and Mrs. Emerson of the Oregon Idaho Conference attended the sessions along with leaders from the churches at Dufur, Tygh Valley, Wasco, Pine Grove, Fossil, Echo, Heppner, Hermiston, and Arlington. Rev. Perry Jackman, Arling ton, was the host pastor. Champ Baker The annual cake baking contest sponsored by the Oregon Wheat Growers League will be held December 4th in Portland during the annual convention, December 4.5.&6th at the Sheraton Hotel. Ten county winners will be competing for the top prize of $100.00 plus other awards. A limited number only could be trained for this session of workshops. Women trained in this workshop w ill then share their knowledge with other home makers in their area. Making wearing apparel for men is currently heading up the list of popular sewing projects for home sewers. Women have discovered the fun of making well tailored items for the men in their lives, as well as the financial savings. Using current techniques, fabrics and in formation, women can make garments equivalent to the best professionally produced. Needlework Mrs Ryan and Mrs. Verne Mmmch were presented blue ribbons won in the Oregon State Grange neeoSework contest. Mrs. Mmmch also received red and white ribbons. Door prizes were won by Vic Marchek. Bill Bates. Jack McEntire and Mrs. Frank Marlow. After the program there were five tables of pinochle played. Zeart Gillespie won high prize for the men and Hazel Carpenter high for the women. Second highs went to Mr. and Mrs. Verne Minmch. Rov Ball and Mrs. Ben Donovan received the travel ing pinochle prizes. What's Cookin This recipe for Carrot Cake comes from Bobbe Driscoll. Mr. and Mrs Norman Nelson, and Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Nelson went to Port land last weekend for a visit with Mrs Bertha Nelson. Mrs. Nelson is the Nelson boy's mother. She is in the hospital and hopes to get out sometime this week. Mr and Mrs. Alfred Nelson stayed to be with their mother. Mr. and Mrs. Norman Nelson went to Salem on November 5th to attend Mrs. Nelson's mother's birthday, Mrs. Nell McElhmney. It was at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Runkin. Mrs. Runkin is a sister of Mrs. Nelson. All of the family attended. Barbara Ann, 15; De bora Lee and Donna Marie, 12; and Anita Jean, 8, dau ghters of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Palmer, lone. salt, soda and spices. Add oil and mix well. Add eggs, one at a time. Beating well after each addition. Add vanilla, carrots, walnuts. Mix well. Bake in ungreased tu!e pan for 1 hour and 20 minutes at 350 degrees or two 9 inch greased and floured cake pans for 45 minutes. The cake is moist, keeps well and is a good freezer. Bobbe recommends a Phila delphia Cream Cheese frost ing. Add powdered sugar and a little milk to make a spreading consistency. She likes to add a pinch of salt and a little vanilla. mu.
