Ca "Young" Joe recalls leaving the county on Sept 17th, 1917 with 15 other county boys for Camp Lewis He later went to Camp Merritt 111 N.J. On July 7, 1918 he went to Europe where he served in France under Major General Green under "Black Jack" Pershing. There were 88 Oregonians in the same division, and Joe does not recall that any Morrow County men were lost in combat Mr. and Mrs Joseph Mason II had three children and they managed to get all three through college, he says. Their son Joseph III works with the Epperson Insurance Group in Portland; daughter Helen Louise lives in Salem where her husband Thomas E. Duftey is an adjuster for Fanners Insurance Group; daughter Lural Mae lives 111 Eugene where her husband Jack Saunders is an aeroplane mechanic. Mr. Mason comes here every now and (hen to visit his sisters Clara and Mabel and to reminisce with friends of yesteryears. He is a very witty and pleasant conversationalist.
