Of the 2 offices eight of them were filled by boys and the remaining 18 by girls. JV Rally squad members elected were Mary Healy, Judy Healy and Joyce Mar quardt. I " I lone Garden Club in their booth showed the threat of Puncture vine if it isn't controlled. The final event of the 1972 Auto Racing season unfolds at Hermiston's Umatilla Speed way Sunday when the track holds its annual championship tripleheader featuring Stocks, Modifieds and the Figure 8 cars. There's 90 laps of champion ship racing scheduled, follow ing a trio of trophy dashes one for each type of car-and three heats, the champion ship mains are 15 laps for the Figure 8's, 25 laps for the Modifieds and 50 laps for the Stocks. STATE FAIR PRESENTATIONS A demonstration on macra mae earned Anita Davidson a blue ribbon in State Fair competition. Presentations are used in the 4-H program to give the boy or girl practice in preparing and giving public talks, and as a way to teach others. Anita presented her demon stration in the intermediate home ec division. Get Set to Sew Pants for Fall SER? Be A Winner-Sew With Wool "Make it Yourself with Wool" official entry applicat ions are now available at the Morrow County Extension Office. Girls 10 thru 21 years of age may participate in the contest, which focuses atten tion on the beauty and versatility of American wool, encourages the use of wool in sewing, knitting, and crochet, offers young experts the opportunity to compete for valuable prizes and win recog nition for their skills. Pre-teen (10-13) Junior (14-16) and Senior (17-21) age categories are available, so all girls ma enter. District 14 Director is Mrs. Robert Hoskins, lone. District competition will be held November 18 an Blue Mount ain Community College, Pendleton. Winners from the districts compete later in the year. One entry is selected, at State competition, to repre sent Oregon at the National' finals in Washington, D.C. on January 23, 1973. Any girl 10 thru 21 may enter the contest by sending in the official entry application. All women interested in a workshop on sewing knit pants are asked to contact Birdine Tullis, Extension office, phone 076-9642. Leaders are needed for a training to be given by Debbie Barker, Extension Home Economist on October 2 and 9. Leaders trained on these dates will give work shops in their communities. All women are welcome at the workshops at no charge. Leaders must be enrolled by Sept. 23. Please let us know if you will be a leader teacher or if you wish to take the workshop when given locally. One young homemaker says it helps her little guy to keep the thermometer in his mouth long enough to get an accurate reading. SAVE TIME AND SPACE, Don't waste your time steriliz ing a couple bottles at a time. Do a whole batch, and when they're cool enough to touch, take them out and fill half-way with boiled water, and seal with nipple and cap. When you need one, simply take it from cabinet and fill to top with formula (or evaporated milk if that's what you're using). Two Proud Kids Danny Cant, Hermiston, with his champion dog Cassey , a Shelly, and Sharon Peck, Hermiston, with Danny, a Keeshound. Danny is 12 years old and his dog is three; Sharon is 15 and her dog is four years old. Both took Grand Champion in Sub- Novice Obedience at the Morrow County Dog Show during Fair, they will be attending State Fair for obed ience and showmanship. The Pirates made no Gets Masters Dean Naffziger was at school at Oregon State this slimmer, lie received his masters in Counselling and Guidance. He teaches PE in Heppner tirade School and High School. He is assistant foolball coach, head basket ball coach and is Athletic Director. Tom Shear's Summer TOM SHEAR'S SUMMER Tom Shear worked and visited with friends and relat ives in the Minnesota, South Dakota states. This was his first trip back into this area in 4 or 5 years. He helped with some haying. The hay crop is alfalfa. There's no irrigation but there were good crops due to the vast amount of rainfall this summer. The hay is baled and slacked. This ranch fed out their crop to cattle on the ranch. The last part of the summer he was in Eugene with his folks. After two weeks he returns to San Diego.
