UltlKmu. .... on their 50th I'm something of a flag waver, I guess, but I earned the right to be one. I love the national anthem at the Rodeo with the flag flying and the banners and all the colors of the courts and cowboys. At Saturday's show way behind the bucking chutes next to the back fence rode a cowboy all by himself. As he rode he held his hat over his heart during The Star Span gled Banner. That was won derful! Charlie was selling tickets at the rodeo Saturday morning and then at the Wranglers Breakfast on Sunday morning. A woman to whom he'd sold tickets on Saturday said to him when she saw him again Sunday "Whenever there's money changing hands you're there ! Robert DeSpain is so proud of his new daughter born Monday morning. He says she was born with her fingers in her ears! Linda had played cymbals in the Fair parade on Saturday! , , It's so nice to have the Ted Smiths home again. Two years ago, they had a tomato planted in their garden. We watched it grow. They told me I could have all that grew outside the fence. (I got some) After the flood I thought they needed a tomatoe growing m that flower bed again so I took them down a tomato plant along with some snapdragon plants. This spring I looked over the fence frequently to see if they had "our" tomatoe plant started. Never did. ..until I chanced to look over the fence about 10 feet sooner and there was the tomato plant. Event Friends and relatives of the Bob Laughlins attended a pot-luck lunch after the par ade Saturday at the Laughlin home. Out-of-town guests were the Ron McCabes, Karen Valentine Smith, "Pete" Peterson and the Gary Booths, all from Portland; the Dick Applegates, Gresham, and the Lane Pratts, Kennewick. Wa. Did anyone miss "Maggie" at the Fair this year? This was the first year that I've ben here that Maggie wasn't there. Maggie is that big Holstein cow that Rick Drake has shown in 4-H Dairy. It was with Maggie that he became 4-H Grand Champion Show man last year. She's been around so long and knew the ropes so well that last year when he backed the pickup to take her home, she scrambled into the pickup before he even had the walkway in place for her. She is giving milk for a family down towards Hood River, believe. , Arlington boy to study In England Steve Anderson, son of Mrs. Shirley Anderson, widow of the late Ron Anderson, and grandson of Mrs. Margaret Krebs Hurst, leaves soon for a year's study in England with a group from Willamette Univ ersity.
