Minnesota Jim Jr was the first one of the second generation tc enter the business When his tather broke his leg. Jim can home from college to help in the store. Like many of the hometown boys, he married one of the school marms He married Madse Coppuck who came to Heppner to teach Madiie had grown up in a similar kind of store m Montana Her par ents. Mr and Mrs E G. Coppock and four daughters had come from: Montana and settled in Salen. so it was natural that Madge was a Willamette graduate She taught at Oregon State and taught four years in Heppner. After she and Jim were married on Christmas eve l33. she worked in the County Agent's office Ir. those days wnen a woman married she automatically voided her teaching contract. Sne also kept the books tor the store which was doing a tremendous business En. ploy ea in the store were Harry Duncan. Norah Rasmus. Ted Thomson. Ellis Thomson. Curtis Thom son and Winifred Tnomson. Pfcvlhs. are just recently back from Germany . where Bruce com pleted his military tour of duty His degree from Port land State is in Business Ad ministration He expects to go back to school this fall to work on his masters All three of their children worked o!t and on in the store This is the oldest business in town that is still operating with the same family Jim's keen sense of humor makes visiting with him a happy habit His store "is his lite' . He likes to hunt and fish but the last few years he really hasn't had time to get out Madge loves her associa stions with the "drag set" through her work as Librarian a' Heppner High School. She likes to garden, l.kes to read and shares Jim s love for getting out info the mountains CINDY LEATHERS. Pen dleton visited her grandpar ents. She wore a larger white summer straw hat trimmed with pink dacron sheer streamers fastened with seed pearl trim.
