Membership at the present
time is forty active mem
bers, one associate member,
fifteen life members, three
sustaining members and
three honorary members.

Portland of Polish parents.
She lived in Newberg until
1948 when the family moved
to Monument where Evelyn
finished the last two years
of high school. She is married
to Clayton Sweek whose fam
ily were longtime pioneers
in the Long Creek-Hamilton
area. Her children are Mike
17, Dana 16, Curtis 12 and
Sheridan 7. Evelyn is a past
president of the American
Legion Auxiliary, a member
of the Juvenile Advisory
Board, and has just returned
from her first Soroptimist
Regional Conference. She has
been active in many commun
ity affairs. She is recording
secretary-elect of the Hep
pner Club.

SYLVIA McDANIEL. whose
classification is County Gov

Treasurer, joined th Hep
pner Club in 1962. She has
held the office of club treasur- '
er for four years at two
different times and has also
served as corresponding sec
retary and historian. Sylvia
is presently running for re
election to her fifth term as
county treasurer. She has
lived in Heppner since 1944
and has been active in Meth
odist Church and community
affairs. Sylvia is listed in
"Who's Who of American Wo
men". She is married and has
two grown daughters.

heppner Club. She has served
as club president twice in
1955-56 and in 1961-62. For
some years she has baked
sujier Birtiiday Cakes for
members' monthly birthdays.
Eleanor and Ed Gonty have
four children: a married son
who redides in Seattle and
who has four children and a
married daughter in Ukiah
who has two children. Two
boys are stai at home. Doug
is a high school sophomore
and Tom is a bachelor.

ALICE SOWARD came to
Heppner in July 1951 when her
husband became pastor of the
local Christian Church. After
Mr. Sowartfs surgery and
after effects, when he was un
able to continue active work
in the fall of 1955, Alice went
to work. She worked in the
Assessor's office for Vi
years, worked at the First
National Bank for 3 years,
and began working for Far
ley Motors in Jan. 1960. Alice
and Earl Soward have 3 child
ren and 9 grandchildren. The
two sons are in the insurance
business and their daughter
is married to a Christian
minister and is living in
Hutchinson, Kansas. Alice's
hobbies are needlework, gar
dening and raising beautiful
orchids. Alice is correspond
ing secretary this year.
