Paul Pettyjohn, Jr. TO POSTMASTERS MEET Mrs. Charles O'Connor, lone Post Mistress, attended the Mid-w inter Post Master Con ference Jan. 31 Feb. 2, held in Portland. The Oregon Chap ter of the National Associa tion of Post Masters conduct ed Its meeting at the Shera ton Hotel. Mrs. O'Connor serv ed on the Constitution and By laws committee, as well as helping with registration. Af ter the conference, Mrs. O' Connor went to Eugene, where she visited their daughter, Terri, a University of Ore gon senior. Mr. O'Connor Join ed his wife and daughter in Eugene. The O'Connors return ed to lone on Sunday. Mr, and Mrs. Dean Lovgren, Portland, were weekend guests of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Victor Lovgren. While here, they also visited with Mr. and Mrs. Fcbert Peterson, Pick and Dawn. Mrs. Peterson is Dean's sister. JR HIGH HAVE 2 OVER ECHO lone s Junior High "A" squad brought home a 46-23 victory over Echo on Feb. 4. Kim Gutierrez dropped in 11 points for the victors, fol lowed by Todd Peterson and John Ekstrom with 8 points each; Joe Rietmann and Skye Krebs with 6, Clay West, 3, LeRoy pea, 2, and Dan Ak ers, 2. Coach Jerry Martin commended the team effort that was displayed and cited Skye Krebs for his outstanding work in rebounding, passing, and in leading the fast breaks. Echo's Fisher was high for his team with 11 points. The "B" team was handed a 41 29 defeat by the hosting Echo team. Eight lone players scor ed. LeRoy Rea took high scor ing honors with 7 points. Echo had two players, Bean and Berry, who scored 12 points each. Brian had been a guest of the Morgans for sev eral days. Mrs. Elmer Ellis was trans ferred from the Pioneer Mem orial Hospital, Hepvner, to a Pendleton Hospital on Tues day. Mrs. Ellis slipped on an Icy sidewalk on lone's main street. The services will be followed by a coffee hour. Kristme Peterson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Pe terson, is recuperating In her parent's home after having sur gery Jan. 28. at Community Hospital in Pendleton. Fourteen members of the Coast Guard Auxiliary of Her miston were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Milton Morgan on Wednesday evening. Sandy Bryson and her son, Brian, of Portland, were weekend guests of her father, J. H. Bryson. Mrs. Harold Sherer has been hospitalized in Pioneer Mem orial Hospital, Heppner, where she has been receiving care since Jan. 2t. BASKETBALL THIS WEEKEND lone High School's basket ball team will host Umapine at 8:00 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 11. The Junior Varsity squad will play Heppner's freshman team at 6:30 p.m. On Saturday, Feb. 12, the Weston basketball team will travel to lone for JV action at 6:30 p.m. and Varsity play to begin at 8:00 p.m. Valentine's parties will be enjoyed by the grade school students in lone on Monday afternoon. The Cascade Locks ganw, that was postponed this past weekend due to the bad wea ther, has been rescheduled for Saturday, Feb. 26. The lone School girls' bas ketball team will travel to Pilot Rock for a game sched uled at 6:00 p.m. on Thurs day, Feb. 17. The team Is coached by Mss Barbara Tal ley and John Wagenblast. Grade School's Election Results Announced Last week was election week at Heppner Elementary School. On Monday the class es nominated candidates; cam paigning took place the remain der of the week; and candi dates addressed a 5th to 8th grade assembly Friday mor ning. At the conclusion of the elec tion assembly students return ed to their home rooms to vote. Election results were announced at noon' New officers are: President, Suzanne Cutsforth, 8th grade; vice-president, Jeff Cutsforth, 7th grade; secretary, Lynn Gochnauer, 6th grade, and treasurer, Allen Burkenbine, 8th grade. Class representat ives who will serve on the student council are: 8th grade, Robert Eckman and Jon Prock, 7th grade, Brian Swee ney and John Schiller; 6th grade, Janice Healy and Bruce Young; 5th grade, Ro sanna Marlatt and Wendy Myers. IFF1GON POSTMASTER ATTENDS CONFERENCE LaVelle Partlow, Irrigon Postmaster, along with other Oregon Postmasters, attended a mid-winter conference at the Sheraton Hotel in Portland Feb. 1 and 2.
