Elects, Plans
Jim Carr of the Willow Creek
Cabinet Shop, in lone, likes to
make things. He had quite an
area in the back of the store
that he wasn't using. Some of
the kids asked him . . . "Why
don t you put in a pool hall?
So he did. He put in three pool
tables, an ice cream freezer and
pop machine. He keeps adding
things. He plans to install an
electric oven to cook frozen
pizza, sandwiches and other
snacks.
"The Pool Hall" is open to
.both boys, and girls from 3:30
until 9 p.m. every evening.
There is a student in charge
from 3:30 to 6 and Mrs. Carr
after 6 o'clock. Mr. Carr contin
ues working in his cabinet
rhop, sometimes with the door
shut and sometimes open. Kids
shoot pool for 25c a game.
Occasionally there's an adult
who drifts in to play.
No rough talk is allowed and
he says to the kids, "If you're
going to drink, I don't want
your money.
The Carr children are gone.
Jim is in Clackamas Commun
ity College. Two daughters at
tend high schools in Portland.
Janice, a sophomore at Mar-t-'hall
was recently voted
"Freshman of the Year".
Air. Carr is justly proud of
his skills and will show off with
pride whatever piece of furni
ture or cabinet ho is working
on. He refinishes old and anti
que furniture. You can tell he
loves the fine old woods as he
rubs his hands over them. '
Go in on a frosty day an
you can warm yourself at the
pot-bellieed stove that he feeds
vith scrajps from his saw.
The Riverside Pirates will
play basketball at Umatilla
Dec. 4' for their first game.
