Tax Status Of Mobile Homes Told Person living in mobile homes or travel trailers which have lieen placed on the as sessment roll are entitled to claim such property for purpos. e of the 1971 homi-owners' properly tax relief law. Sheriff Mollahan explained today in answer to questions from such properly owners. The sheriff emphasizes, how over, that mobile homes and other vehicles licensed by the Motor Vehicles Division of the State Department of Transiwr tatlon do not qualify as "home steads" under the new law. Mobile homes or travel trail ers which qualify as homesteads are put on the assessment rolls by the county assessor either as real property, when the land is also owned by the taxpayer, or as personal property for those situated in mobile home or trail er parks. If such homesteads were not put on the assessment roll this year, no homeowner property lax relief can be gained from the new law. However, a law passed by the 1971 legislation will require that all mobile homes over 8 feet wide be plac ed on the 1972 assessment roll and therefore will automatically qualify as a homestead for fu ture years. Mobile homes 8 feet wide or less wlH be considered a homestead 'if used as a home and the owner requests that it be placed on the assessment roll. Anyone wishing additional in formation on the subject can contact either the assessor's of fice or the sheriff's tax department. Mrs. Vern Nolan has returned home from Pendleton Commu nity Hospital where she under went major surgery. She is get ting along fine.
