Gallant Cavaliers Have Many Visitors Two of Heppner's most gallant cavaliers are brightening Kie Pioneer Memorial Hospital this week. Latest reports are that Frank Turner and John Wight man are both doing nicely, medically speaking. They are doing excellently, socially speak ing, with hordes of well wishing visitors gathering in the room they share. Mr. Turner seems to have suf fered a light stroke as he was out in his yard last Saturday, and his Good Samaritan neigh bor, Harold Kerr, came to his assistance and helped him to the hospital. lone Smashes Echo lone Is back on top of the world again with their smash ing defeat of Echo last Friday afternoon. The final score was 5ti to 0. Coach Meyers said It was a tough ball game. Until about half way In the 2nd quarter the score stood nt 12 to 0. Then lone Intercepted two passes back to back for more TD's. So In less than a minute the Cards doubled their score. This mouthful organi zation Columbia-Blue Mtn. Re source Conservation & Develop ment project of Gilliam, Morrow and Umatilla Counties is sponsoring the tour with the Oicgon Nuclear & Thermal En ergy Council and local citizens as guests. The tour will cover new farm cropland areas and also nuclear power plant siles in the three counties. The ii Initial of this giant area In farming and irrigat'on along with production of electric en ergy is considered one of the wonders of the West. The tour will leave the Dodge City Inn parking area in Board man at 9:30 a.m. sharp. Travel will be by bus and group will return to Boardman by 5 p.m. A no-host luncheon is planned enroute on the tour. Football Tonight, Mustangs to Maupin The Mustangs go to Maupin to play tonight at 8 p.m. This could be a tight game. Maiiipin defeated Umatilla 28 to 27 and Heppner defeated Umatilla 38 to 20. The Mustangs will be without Rory Stillman and Ba!r ney Marshall who are suffering from sprained ankles. He was a year resi dent of Heppner. Mr. French was lnn Feb. 2S. 1882 in llltcliiit sub-riistiht of the counties of Ihrtfoid und Bedford In England He was united In marriage to Mabel Cay In Heppner. Nov. 25, 1914. Mr. French worked for the Turn-A-Lum Lumber Company In Heppner from 1921 until its branch here was dosed. Mr. French Is survived by his wife Mabel, Heppner; two dau ghters, Mrs. Florence Green, H( ppner. Mrs. Jessie Baker. Rockpoit, Wn.; a son, William C. French, Heppner. and four sisters, Daisy, Emily, Jessia, and Jennie in England; nine grandchildren, and -5 great grandchildren. Memorial services were con ducted Tuesday. Oct. 5. at the Sweeney Mortuary Chapel at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Edwin Cut ting officiating. Interment fol lowed at the Heppner Masonic Cemetery. Mrs. Pauline Miller sang "How Great Thou Art". Casket bearers were: Paul Jones, Her man Green, Howard Bryant, Ray Winslow, Leslie Moore and Elmer Byland. Mrs. Maggie Reynolds Is up from Astoria visiting her twin sister. Mrs. N. D. Bailey. Although this was predomin ately a freshman contest, both sides used sophomores sparing ly throughout the game. Next action for Heppner U a junior varsity contest scheduled for Pilot Rock next Monday eve ning with game time set for 6 p.m. The next home game Is Oct. 18 against Condon at the rodeo grounds. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Lynch who formerly lived there have purchased the Leo Boutclle's place that had been damaged in the flood. They have done a great deal of clean ing and remodeling of the home that was quite heavily damag ed in the May, 1971 flood. Mr. and Mrs. Boutelle moved to Pasco but are very very glad to be back.
