Thursday, August 12. 1971 Wranglers Plan for Fair and Rodeo Judy Currin wil again be gen eral chairman of the cowboy breakfast to be served at the city park in Heppner on Sun day, Aug. 29, beginning at 7:00 a.m. The Wranglers riding club an nually sponsors this part of the Morrow County Fair and Rodeo as well as directing the horse show on Friday, Aug. 27. A special feature of the break fast this year is the drawing for the saddle. The drawing will be at 10:00 Sunday morning and the saddle will be presented to the winner at Sunday after noon's rodeo performance. Tick ets on the saddle are available from any Wranglers member and may be obtained by a $1.00 donation to the club. Members are reminded to have all stubs and money to the secretary be fore the time of the drawing. Entries for the horse show will be open Wednesday, Aug. 25 and will close at 8:00 p.m. that evening. Valuable awards will be given as well as fair prem iums for placing in the classes. The awards are purchased throuRh generous contributions by local businesses and private donors. Mr. Lyman Nash from Enter prise will be horse show judge and Art Vance is general super intendent for the show. Any one wishing to enter a Morrow Coun ty Horse is advised to read the fair premium book for Information. County Assessor Marries Jovee Ritch. Morrow County Assessor and Elwayne Bergstrom were married Thursday evening hv Judfre Paul Jones at the fniirthnuse. Jovce wore a white dress trimmed in brown and her corsage was pink carnations and wedding bells. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Harrison were their attendants. Well Travelled Cat Missing in Irrigon By FRANCES ROSE WILSON IRRIGON A Vietnamese cat was lost by a young couple who thought enough of him to have him flown to the States from Vietnam. He escaped from his travel cage while they stopped to rest at the school grounds in Irrigon. He is a large black and white, bobbed tailed cat. Don Adams was asked to send him on if he was found. He has their address and poor pussy's ship ping cage. Visiting Mr. and Mrs. Frank Stewart of La Grande, visited at the home of her mother, Mrs. Ruth McCoy, and also with her son and family, Mr. and Mrs. Ver non Stewart. On Thursday, Aug. 5, they attended the funeral of Jack McFall in the Tri-City ar ea. He was a cousin of theirs, and a frequent visitor of rela tives here. Mrs. Ron Smith and Larry Courtney were visitors of Ellen Reeder last week. Mrs. Reeder is visiting relatives in Portland this week. -1 - 11-- . 4& THE TUESDAY grass fire burned several acres of grass behind the houses on Fairview Way. But for the wind blowing the other way the houses could have been in serious danger. The fire truck is shown on the top side of the fire. The figure stand ing down on the burned out area is volunteer fireman. Ken Evans. . Food Stamp Center Opens The new Food Stamp Center will open in Heppner today. It is located at 178 West Willow St., Just east of City Hall. The office was formerly a gro cery store and has been remod eled and decorated in tasteful paneling and carpeting. J&4&A 4&J&- 6. Mr. and Mrs. David Cronk and family of Covina, Calif., arrived Sunday to spend several days visiting his brother and fam ily, the Rev. and Mrs. Wesley Cronk. Mr. and Mrs. George Dickason of Philomath, Ore., were visitors of Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Stephens on Sunday. Mrs. Dickason is a niece of Mrs. Stephens. Mr. and Mrs. Orville Buchan an and Mr. and Mrs. Herman Havecost visited Havecost's son in Bellingham, Wash. The men did some fishing while there, with good results. Grass Fire The Irrigon Rural Fire Dept., answered a call to fight a grass fire in the vicinity of the Pat terson Ferry road, on Tuesday. Baby Shower There will be a pink and blue shower for Mrs. Wesley Cronk on Thursday, Aug. 12, at 7:30 p.m. It will be in the person age basement, and everyone is welcome to attend. Don Stangel North Morrow 4-H Leaders Council met at the Floyd Hobbs home on Aug. 3. Don Stangel, County Agent was present for his first meeting with North Morrow 4-H leaders. He received his Masters Degree in animal nutrition at Oregon State Uni versity this year. He and his wife, Karen, have an 18 month old son, and have recently moved to Heppner. Plans for participation in the Morrow County Fair, to be held at Heppner, Aug. 23-27, were discussed. The Irrigon 4-H Square Dancing club will per form Tuesday, Aug. 24 at 8:30 p.m. The annual 4'-H horse show will be Aug. 15, starting at 10 members for demonstrations and exhibits. Two Homes Sold Mr. and Mrs. Don Cole have purchased a home at 175 North Court Street from Mr. ana jvirs. Don Bellenbrock. Mr. Cole is the new grade school principal at Heppner. Mr. and Mrs. Don Stangel have purchased a home at 540 South Chase Street from Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Snyder. Mr. and Mrs. Snyder are putting in a mobile home at the rear of the tract there. Mr. Stangel is the new county extension agent here in Harold Kerr's officce. Fire Meeting! Deputy State Fire Marshal Stan Phillips will be at the lone Fire Dept. at 7:30 p.m., Monday, Aug. 16. He will give instruc tions to the lone, Lexington and Heppner fire departments and any other interested people who wish to attend. The old er three boys had previously been fined $20 each on a game violation. Case stemmed from charges following a window breaking spree in the mountains south of Heppner. The boys had made a full restitution, replac ing broken windows and clean ing up. Involved was a juvenile from Hermiston; WiUiam Dahl Able 19, also of Hermiston; James Daniel Bowman 19, Echo, and Carter Edward Engum 20, of Stanfield. $100 fines were on a, misdemeanor charge of break-; ing glass in a dwelling not their own. Mr. and Mrs. LeKay Gard ner returned Tuesday from a market trip to Sacramento, Their son and daughter-in-law came up from San Diego to visit with them while they were down there.
