set up at rodeo time to help

the display this year. Cliff Aid
rich says that 20 years ago a

Evidence that the new 4-H
luncheon contest at county fair
has caught the interest of 4-H
foods club members was visible
at the last meeting of Pat Pet
tyjohn's club. A "test run'
luncheon was served to moth'
ers and guests by members of
the club. Party chicken salad
with honey dew wedges and fire
cracker plums was the eye ap
pealing and delicious main
course. Dessert was black hatter
pie, a tasteful concoction of ice
cream and chocolate with a very
unusual crust.
A brief skit, "what mother
taught me" involving all mem
bers was presented by the girls
for entertainment. Kathleen Mc
Elllgott, Jr., leader of the club
gave a reading, "Mothers". Host
ess for the event at the Lee Pet
tyjohn farm home were 4-H
members Laurie Childers, Mi
chelle McElligott, Debra Palm
er, Jan Peterson, Jeannie Pien-
ning, Natalie Tews and Kath
leen McElligott and their lead
er, Pat Pettyjohn.
Foods club members gain
many skills in addition to nu
trition and food preparation.
They learn to be gracious and
poised hostesses, time manage
ment, marketing and budgeting,
and many other phases of con
sumer education. All these, with
the added ingredient of fun and
friends, are making 4-H Foods
Clubs Increasingly popular.
