The Urban Renewal Agency approved payment for the West Extension property consisting of 23 acres on Kunze Road. Mr.' and Mrs. Michael Fossey are the parents of a daughter, Shannon Marie, born June 28 at the Pendleton Community Hos pital. The baby weighed 7 lb. 2 oz. Grandparents are Mrs. Al bert Farlow of Boardman, and Mrs. Lois Fowler of Her mis ton Great-grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Frank Bishop of Hermls ton, and Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Fossey of Dubois, Wyo. ' There were two tables of pi nochle in play at the card par ry new Tuesday at the Green flald Grange hall, sponsored by IRRIGON NEWS IBRIGON Mr. and Mrs. Dale Hum vacationed in Reno, Nev., and Stockton, Calif., re cently. They returned home for a short time, then traveled to Phillips Lake, and celebrated the 4th of July there, along with the Dan Creamer family and other friends. Three youths of this area at tended Perry's Sports Camp near Vernonla. They were, Skip Gro chowskl and Robert Richards of Irrigon and Terry Crowder of Boardman. The boys enjoyed playing basketball, baseball. football and swimming. Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Miller of Irrigon, attended a 10 day rally at the wally Byam Caravan Club In Salem, which concluded on July 4. They joined with a group of around 2,900 who are organized to promote traveling in a group, with Airstream trail ers. The Millers traveled 3,000 miles in Mexico last winter and into Canada last summer. Mrs. Miller was given a birth day party by her family and friends in June, on her 75th birthday. Those attending in eluded Bud Holden and daugh ter Betty of Umatilla, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Holden, Steve and Terry of The Dalles, a grand daughter, Pamela Briggs of Portland, Melva Gebhard of Medford and Mr. and Mrs. Carl Carlson of Hermiston. Carmine Wilson of Santa Cruz, Calif., is visiting at the home ef her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Chester Wilson. Mr. and Mrs, James Wilson of Hermiston Join- ea tnem, as ainnejr guests on Sunday. Cindy and Robin Lowe, Sheryl Partlow and Joe Mesteth repre sented the Irrigon Assembly of God Church at the Blue Moun tain Youth Camp, Ea,st of Prair ie City, the week of July 5-10. Mrs. Floyd Mesteth drove to the camp with her son Joe and was a helper in the kitchen. Missionary David Godwin of Panama was guest speaker at the camp. Two singing groups from Assembly of God Colleges were present, these were The Bethanaires of Bethany Bible College, Santa Cruz, Calif., and :; Daughters of the King, of North west College,' Kirkland, Wash. the Women's Activity Commit tee of the grange. Mr. and Mrs. Gaston Gray and son returned home Wednesday from a visit in Yreka, Calif., ov er the weekend at the home of Mrs. Gray's parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Flock. They also vis ited her brother-in-law and sis tcr, Mr. and Mrs. Quinton Pfing sten in Eugene. Sterling Pfing' sten returned home with them for a week's visit. Mr. and Mrs. Tony Branco and son Neal of McKlnleyvllle, Calif, visited for ten days at the home of Mrs. Branco's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Gantenbeln. Other holiday guests at the Gan tenbeln home were Gantenbein's mother, Minnie Gantenbein, his niece and family, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Lee and sons Mark, Chris and Richard, Jr., and Mr. I and Mrs. Jerry Bliss and sons Mark and Brian, all of Gresham. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Baker and daughters Karen and Kris tie went to Auburn, Wash., over the holidays to visit Mrs. Baker's brother, Jim Miller. They also stopped at Vancouver, Wash., to visit her cousin, Mr. and Mrs. Dean Griffin. Mrs. Glenn Mallery of Seat tie, Wash., visited the past week at the home of her stepfather and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Ball. Zearl Gillespie and Hazel Car penter went to La Grande over the holidays to visit at the home of Mrs. Carpenter s sisters, Mrs, Esther Emmons and Eva La Chance. Dohertys Have Busy 4th of July Mr. and Mrs. Ross Doherty, Eva, Ann and Rose Mary of Se attle visited Mr. and Mrs. Charles Doherty of lone over the 4th of July weekend. While here they also visited Gene Do herty in Heppner. Gene and Ross are brothers and are cousins of Charles. Mr. and Mrs. William Doherty, Todd and Tanya of Auburn, Wn., and Mrs. Ann Brandon of Beaverton were also guests at the Charles Doherty home for the 4th of July weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Matt Doherty and Kathy and Sue came over from Hermiston on Sunday to join In the fun. On July 8, Miss Marilyn Brad shaw arrived from Oakland, Calif., to spend two weeks visit ins here with her sister and family, the Charles Dohertys. Later she will go to Albany to visit her folks, Mr. and Mrs. Byron Biadshaw. They will all come up to Morrow County for the Fair. It is reported that the organ was 109 years old but played very well, Mr. and Mrs. Troy Carey were in The Dalles Saturday on bus! ness. Mr. and Mrs. Deszil White went to Portland Saturday where they visited with Mrs, Albert White and daughter Barbara and then went to Portland San itarium to visit with Albert White who Is a patient there. In Gresham they visited with Mr. and Mrs. Denzil White, Jr. and family and at Estacada they visited with Mr. and Mrs. Carl Ahnert and family, Mr. and Mrs. Don Dunlap and family, Mr. and Mrs. Don Bergener and family and with Miss Susan White. Mr. and Mrs. Ray O'Neall and family went to Prineville Satur day where they visited with Mr. and Mrs. Ray O'Neall, Sr. On Monday, the O'Neall family went to Heppner to have dent al work done for Ray. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Oore of Hermiston visited Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Bob Blue. Mrs. Don Hardwick and son Donny were in John Day last Tuesday to the dentist. On Frl day the Hardwicks went to Heppner on business and then visiting with them for the week end were Lynn Dugan and son Danny of Iluuooro. Danny re mained at the Hardwicks to vis It for a week. tone's July 4lh Celebration Every year the lone American Legion displays a Fourth of July fireworks. This years fireworks display cost $225. Legionairres received $199 in donations. Do nations are accepted all year around. A concession stand is set up at rodeo time to help sponsor Boys' State and the lone 4th of July fireworks. There were 500 persons estimated present at the display this year. Cliff Aid rich says that 20 years ago a display as shown this year might have cost $75 to $100. The lone football field was an excellent location for such a so cial gathering on a beautiful summer evening. The younger members of the family grouped with friends before the fireworks with their sparklers. It was an evening of real celebration for everyone. New Fair Event Tested at Luncheon Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Haskett of Hermiston were visiting In Hepp ner Monday. They were accom panied by Mr. and Mrs. A E. Maunu of Marysvllle, Ca. The Hasketts formerly lived in Hepp ner. They were pleased with the way the crops were looking In this area. Mr. and Mrs. Haskett will be back later in the week to stay at the Cal Sherman home while Mr. and Mr. Sherman are in New Orleans to attend the Na tional Elks Convention. Evidence that the new 4-H luncheon contest at county fair has caught the interest of 4-H foods club members was visible at the last meeting of Pat Pet tyjohn's club. A "test run' luncheon was served to moth' ers and guests by members of the club. Party chicken salad with honey dew wedges and fire cracker plums was the eye ap pealing and delicious main course. Dessert was black hatter pie, a tasteful concoction of ice cream and chocolate with a very unusual crust. A brief skit, "what mother taught me" involving all mem bers was presented by the girls for entertainment. Kathleen Mc Elllgott, Jr., leader of the club gave a reading, "Mothers". Host ess for the event at the Lee Pet tyjohn farm home were 4-H members Laurie Childers, Mi chelle McElligott, Debra Palm er, Jan Peterson, Jeannie Pien- ning, Natalie Tews and Kath leen McElligott and their lead er, Pat Pettyjohn. They learn to be gracious and poised hostesses, time manage ment, marketing and budgeting, and many other phases of con sumer education.
