Rainbow Reception Held for Karla "Faith Can Move Mountains1 was the theme of the reception honoring Karla Weatherford on March 21. Invocation and benediction were given by Sue Melby, Fast Grand Representative of the State of New Hampshire in Ore gon followed by the Introduc tion of guests. Among those present, guests recognized were Mr. and Mrs. Marlon Weather ford of Arlington, Karla'a aunt and uncle; Juanlta Carmlchaol, Past Grand Organist for East ern Star In Oregon and Paul Jones, Past Grand High Priest of the Royal Arch Masons in , Oregon. Addendums were given for Karla, depicting her theme and for Ruby Becki-t who U Grand Deputy of Rainbow. Foye Wll on was presented with her Past Mother Advisors Charm. The afternoon'a decorations carried out Karla's theme using the color decor of pink and or ange. Mountains were painted behind the Worthy Advisor's chair, letters spelling faith were on the color stations and the iiteps up to the East were dec orated In letters In the shape of a mountain. Reception Follow The theme was carried out In the cake of varigated roses of pink and orange on a white background centered with an open book Inscribed with "Faith Can Move Mountains". Colleen Calliher made and served the cake with Mrs. Carmichael serv ing the coffee and tea and Mrs. Clarice Baker, the punch. Wood-French Nuptials March 27 St. Patrick's Parish Hall will be the place of the marriage of Karen French, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond French of Heppner to Joe Wood of Phil omath on Saturday, March 27 at 1 o'clock in the afternoon here In Heppner. All friends and relatives are cordially Invited to attend the ceremony and the reception Im mediately following at the Heppner Elks Club. The ceremony to have been held at St. Patrick's Church has been moved to the Parish Hall. Visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Dean Connor and family this week is Miss Parsons of Bea-verton. DOTS JOTS KARLA WEATHERFORD Friends Honor Karen French At Shower Fifty-four guests attended the bridal shower honoring Karen French last Wednesday evening at St Patrick's Parish Hall. As sisting her open her many gifts were her sisters, Susan ana Ver Ina, Mrs. Dean Naffziger and her cousin. Lorl O'Rourke. The beautiful centerpiece of apricot colored roses was arrang ed In an upside-down brandy snifter by Frank McAllister. The shower carried out Karen's colors chosen for her wedding of apricot and green. Guests enjoyed seeing a pic ture of Karen taken when she was a flower girl at the wed ding of Marion and Gwen Green which was displayed on the ser ving table. Mrs. Raymond French, Karen's mother, was at the coffee urn and Mrs. Larry O'Rourke was at the punch bowl. Hostesses were Mrs. Robert LauEhlin. Mrs. Don Greenup, Mrs. Mitch Ashbeck, Mrs. Ilene Wyman, Mrs. Dick Meador, Mrs. Harold Irwin Mrs. Clint Agee, Mrs. Jack VanWinkle and Mrs. Jerry Daggett. Mr. and Mrs. Rod Hastings and Steve moved this week from Heonner to Wallowa. Mr. Hast ines recently retired from Kin zua Mills. He has lived In Mor row County all of his life. They will be near their aau ehter and their son. They are Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Prince and familv and Mr. and Mrs. George Jones and family, aoin Mr. ana Mrs. Hastings like to hunt and fish. He expects to work part time in the summer time. A Cake Sitting Dogi Unless you've met Baron, the huge Beagle who live with Dave and Diane Owens you can't appreciate thti happening. Diane was taking her cane to the Soroptimtst Cooked Food Sale last week when she looked back and saw Baron wa fol lowing her. She got out to send htm back and he hopped in to go with her . . . you guessed it , . . right upon the seat on top of the cake with that happy mile, "See you didn't really want to leave me at home . . . did you?" That will be a good one to tell her grandchildren. While we're on cakes . . . the Wheat League cake recipe Is In Columbia Basin's ad this week. They have gone back to choc olate again. This Is pleasing to Charlie because he thinks It Isn't cake unless it's chocolate. I always think I'm going to try it early and get so good I'll en ter one in the fair. Attractive green shamrocks numbered the tables and the re freshment table was decorated in a preen motif. Homemade cookies and coffee were served during the evening and the prizes were cakes, pies and cookies. High for pinochle was won by Fr. Raymond Beard and for bridge by Mrs. Inez Huffman. Door prizes were won by Mrs. Karen Thompson and Mrs. Al ice McCabe. NANCY DOHERTV Nancy Doherty Engagement Told Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Doherty announce the engagement of their daughter, Nancy, to Steve Pettyjohn, son of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Pettyjohn. Both famil ies are from Heppner. Miss Doherty and Pettyjohn are 1968 graduates of Heppner High School. Miss Doherty Is presently a journalism major at the University of Oregon in Eu gene. Mr. Pettyjohn is majoring in engineering at Oregon State University in Corvallis. A summer wedding is planned. Party Honors Floyd Hutchins Floyd Hutchins of Heppner was honored on his 64th birth day at a celebration given by his daughter, Mrs. Morgan Con nor at her home in Goldendale, Wn. Sunday. Mr. Hutchins ac tual birthdate is March 18. Guests included his daughters and their families, Mrs. Lillian Majors of Hoskins, Wn.; Mr. and Mrs. Ivan McDaniel of Pendle ton and Mr. and Mrs. Larry An gell of Heppner. Also present were his sister-in-law, Mrs. Vio let Hutchins of Portland; his nephew, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Hutchins of Portland and fam ily; Mr. Gerald Angell of Hepp ner; and Mr. and Mrs. Jim Har ris and family of Goldendale, Wn. Grandchildren in attendance were Tracy and Tina Connor; Ken, Rob and Ralph Majors; Sam, Pete and Nathan McDan iel; and Jim and Bobbette An gelL 1 Refinishing Class Sta Furniture Refinishing' work shops are now being held In Heppner under the sponsorship of Home Extension. Mrs. Rich ard Curtis, former home econom ics agent in Grant County, has been employed by the Exten sion Service to teach the work shop. Classes will be held April 1, 7,1 21 and 28, 10-3:00 p.m. on the I rts April 1 fairgrounds. Basic principles of treating wood will be shown, and all types of refinishing techniques for old and new furniture will be demonstrated.
