Mr. Beggs was known in the community, having spent considerable time here when his son Harold Beggs was principal of the lone schools. Gordon White left Wednesday evening and drove to Portland to pick up his wife, Maravene and they drove to Reno, Nev. On Saturday, they attended the marriage of their daughter, Lona White Whellng to John Iverson or Seattle, Wash. Mr. and Mrs. Charles White also attended the wedding. The Gordon Whites went; back to San Francisco and visited the Charles Whites, then flew back to Portland on Sun day and Gordon returned home Sunday evening. John Sumner to Compete in UN Pilgrimage Contest John Sumner, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Sumner will be Hepp ner's contestant In the annual District United Nations Pilgrim age for Youth Contest. The Dis trict Contest will be held in Pendleton Sunday at 2 p.m. at the IOOF Hall. This is to be a speech contest of 7 to 10 min utes covering the essay con tents. The topic this year is 'The Strengths and Weakness es of the United Nations after 25 Years." From the high schools of Umatilla, Morrow, Union and Wallowa counties, one student will be chosen as the district delegate to go on the 4-week all-expense paid trip in July and August. The trip Includes a chartered bus trip to New York and the United Nations via Washington, D. C, and back through Canada.
